Mr. Saturn (Saturn m.pngSaturn r.pngSaturn period.pngSaturn space.pngSaturn s.pngSaturn a.pngSaturn t.pngSaturn u.pngSaturn r.pngSaturn n.png in their distinctive font, andどせいさんMr. Saturn in Japanese) is a race found inEarthBound andMother 3, and have also appeared as an item in the Super Smash Bros. series starting withSuper Smash Bros. Melee and are stillintheseries today. They are the primary residents inSaturn Valley in both games. Mr. Saturns are known for being very peaceful and quirky, and their very distinct way of speaking. Mr. Saturns are also one of the builders for thePhase Distorter.

InEarthBound

The Mr. Saturns inEarthBound play a large role throughout parts of the game. They were first found to have many of their brethren imprisoned byMaster Belch, who used them to do most of the labor inBelch's Base. They don't have any true forms of amusement, but they offer many of their services for free (with the exception of their store).

Later in the events ofEarthBound,Dr. Andonuts andApple Kid work with them to create multiplePhase Distorters. One was originally for the use ofNess and his friends, but was stolen byPokey, who apparently also kidnapped a Mr. Saturn as well. The fact that the Mr. Saturns are capable of creating such technology shows that they are very dexterous and intelligent creatures, despite their very odd dialect, habits, and astounding lack of hands.

InEarthBound 64

The Mr. Saturn race as they would have appeared inEarthBound 64. This one is hiding behind a barrel.

The Mr. Saturns were planned to make a reappearance in the N64 version ofMother 3, with a Mr Saturn village planned on having had an appearance also.[1] Shigesato Itoi stated it would have been lonely without them, hence their return.[2] Mr. Saturn was briefly considered to become a playable character, but this idea was scrapped early in development.

InMother 3

Various Mr. Saturns inMother 3

The Mr. Saturns inMother 3 play a significantly smaller role. WhenLucas first finds them, thePigmask Army has them andDuster held hostage withFrightbots telling them scary stories until they tell them where theNeedle is. After freeing them, the Mr. Saturns form a ladder leading toFire Mountain. They have developed a hobby of going "fishing" for birds, laying down to stare at what is above them, and stacking on each other, a game called "playing ladder" (whichLucas and his party can use occasionally to climb to higher areas). Various members of the Mr. Saturn have single lines of dialog that don't have any significance tothe player whatsoever, simply being quirky. When Lucas and company must leave the now-enclosed Saturn Valley, the Mr. Saturn let them leave via many "birdies" in a cage. One of them asks Lucas for hisCourage Badge and holds onto it for most of the duration ofChapter 7.

Later, right before Lucas approaches the second-to-last needle, a hooded Mr. Saturn, presumably the one that took the Courage Badge, gives Lucas theFranklin Badge, an essential item for confronting theMasked Man. Past that, the Mr. Saturns are only seen again in thecast roll.

Dialect

An example of the way Mr. Saturn speak.

Mr. Saturns seem to speak the English language, but with their own odd and quirky twist to it. The words they speak that appear in the text boxes have their own font. It is unknown if this stands for an unheard accent or not. They also use words likeSaturn k.pngSaturn a.pngSaturn y.pngSaturn dash.pngSaturn o.png,Saturn b.pngSaturn o.pngSaturn i.pngSaturn n.pngSaturn g.png,Saturn z.pngSaturn o.pngSaturn o.pngSaturn m.png, orSaturn d.pngSaturn a.pngSaturn k.pngSaturn o.pngSaturn t.pngSaturn a.png at the end of sentences. Mr. Saturns also use incorrect grammar (relative to English), using fragments and lacking the word "am".

Additionally, Mr. Saturn appears as an item inSuper Smash Bros. Melee,Super Smash Bros. Brawl,Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, where they simply amble around, being able to be thrown at other fighters for some damage. When thrown, they break shields much more easily than most projectile weapons. In addition, Mr. Saturn also appears in Peach's moveset as a random item she pulls out of the ground instead of a vegetable.

Trophy descriptions

Super Smash Bros. Melee

The origins of the Mr. Saturn race are unknown, but many believe they came from outer space. They reside inSaturn Valley and speak their own unique language. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mr. Saturn is just another item with which to pelt foes. These guys are laid back and not into fighting, so you can rest easy... or can you?

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

A creature from a race of unknown origin that speaks its own unique language. Some say they came from outer space, but the facts behind their appearance are wrapped in mystery. In Smash Bros., they'll wait a bit after appearing before wandering off on their own. They can be picked up and thrown at foes for minimal damage. Their shield-breaking properties are high.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

Mr. Saturns are curious beings that speak their own language. They might not look it, but they're scientific geniuses! In this game, they tend to go for a stroll around the battlefield. Throwing one at an enemy won't do much damage, but Mr. Saturn will take out a shield very easily.
