TheGold Mine is a location inEarthBound. It is located in theDusty Dunes Desert.Inside arefive moles who each claim to be the third strongest in the cave. The music is a remix ofMt. Itoi Caves, which then switches to the default Dusty Dunes Desert track after the moles are defeated.

Layout

Players enter from the south-eastern part of the mine, the path then continues upwards to a split. The upper path leads to a ladder taking players to one of the Guardian Diggers, before leading to another ladder. From here going south leads to another fork, with the path going right taking the player back to the original fork. The lower path from there soon makes a u-turn up, then continues towards another set of branching paths. Left leads to a group ofExit mice, while continuing up leads to a ladder leadng to another Guardian Digger. Past it the path continues to a ladder back to the main floor, which goes down with an item to the right path, and heading down goes back to the Exit mice.

The three remaining paths from the Exit mice each lead to the remaining three Guardian Diggers: up leads to an item to the right, while further up leads to a Guardian Digger. The left path turns down to a ladder where an item is found, then back up the path turns left to a Guardian Digger at the dead end. The last path down eventually turns left, the continues to the final Guardian Digger.

InEarthBound

After learning that theRunaway Five were cheated into another debt by the owner ofTopolla Theater inFourside,Ness and his friendsPaula andJeff return to Dusty Dunes Desert to find a way to help. They arrive at the dig site where excavatorGeorge Montague has been searching for buried gold. Inside the mine, George Montegue explains he is unable to continue his excavating due to the five moles posing a threat. Ness explores the gold mine to search for the five Guardian Diggers which are causing problems. They each claim they are the third strongest before they fight Ness, however they all are defeated. Once they are, Ness informs George Montegue that the mine is safe to explore once more, in which he continues his excavation in hopes of finding gold. Instead, he finds a diamond which he then has sent to Ness for a reward.
