Giant Step is a location inEarthBound, being the first of thesanctuaries, with its boss beingTitanic Ant. It is found to the north ofOnett, blocked off by a locked shack. In order to reach the sanctuary,Ness rids the streets of the city fromthe Sharks. Exiting through the broken back wall of the shack leads to the cave entrance.

The cave is named after a large footprint at the top of the hill, where Ness'sSound Stone will record the firstmelody after he has defeated Titanic Ant.

Layout

The Giant Step cave consists of three levels, with caves within which containing items. The three floors are fairly simple in layout, consisting of a straight path to the end. Ropeways are found at the end of each level which are used to traverse between levels. On the third level is the cave exit leading to a cliff outside. AMagic Butterfly will appear regularly as a healing break before the boss. On the west of the cliff is a cave leading back inside.

Back inside the cave follows through several more passageways, then it reaches two ropeways leading to the Sanctuary Guardian. When defeated, the exit to the Giant Step footprint becomes accessible.

History

The Giant Step serves as the first of Ness's Sanctuaries. After defeatingFrank Fly, he is told about the location as well as a strong guard. As thanks for disbanding the Sharks, Ness is given theKey to the shack by themayor of Onett. Ness reaches the end where he meets the Sanctuary Guardian, theTitanic Ant. Ness emerges victorious against it, and proceeds to record the melody of the Giant Step.

Ness sees a vision ofKing when he was a puppy when recording the melody. WhenNess exits out of the cave, he is told by acop to come down to the police station for trespassing.

Near the end of the game, duringGiygas's invasion of Onett, the traveling entertainer's shack is again locked, making the Giant Step inaccessible at the time.
