A render from 1996 of the DCMC, showing a very early line-up of band members. From left to right: Magic Zildjian, Baccio Trumpman, an unknown woman,Shimmy Zmizz, and O.J. Hagii.

Before the release ofMother 3, much of the details regarding the DCMC was different in the N64 version. Not only did all of the members have last names (with only Shimmy Zmizz's making into the GBA version), but most of their roles were changed around:

  • Baccio "Trumpman" was the sax player, having a matching outfit with Shimmy Zmizz.
  • Magic "Zildjian" (with the real name "Rodrigo Rodriguez", revealing Magic to be a stage name) was the drummer.
  • O.J. "Hagii" was the guitarist.
  • Shimmy Zmizz was the band leader instead of O.J. as presented in the GBA version, along with having a matching outfit with Baccio. He is the keyboardist, as he went onto to be in the GBA version.
  • Lucky's outfit had a beret, instead of a wig as presented in the GBA version.

The group all had unique outfits, with Baccio and Shimmy resembling Lucky and Gorgeous of theRunaway Five fromMother 2 respectively. In addition, an unknown blonde woman in a blue dress is seen in a render with the other band members (sans Lucky). As this render was from early stages of development and this unknown woman is not seen in any EarthBound 64 material past 1997, it is unknown whether she would have been featured as apart of the DCMC or the game in general, at the time of the game's cancellation.

InChapter 4

The DCMC were first introduced inChapter 4. When Lucas approaches the train station in Tazmily Village, he overhearsBronson andJackie talking about a DCMC member who resembles Duster. Once inside Club Titiboo,Lucas andBoney can enter the main performance area and speak with the audience who are eagerly waiting for the DCMC concert to begin. The DCMC will then perform their song, "Big Shot's Theme" to the audience of Club Titiboo in which, Duster can be seen playing the bass. Later in the chapter, afterLucas defeats theJealous Bass, he andBoney jump into the band's backstage where the DCMC where staying. Lucas andKumatora, who is disguised as a waitress called Violet, explained Lucky's story to the DCMC. The band accept Lucky's leaving at one condition: Lucas must beat each member in a game ofStone-Sheet-Clippers (Rock-Paper-Scissors) in succession. If the wrong option is chosen, their match is interrupted and Lucas is given another chance. Ultimately, upon winning against the rest of the band members,OJ comes to the conclusion that Lucky's departure from the band is fated, and allows Lucas to win by telling him what move to play, leading to Duster joining Lucas' party. At the end of the chapter, the DCMC perform the song,Bon Voyage, Amigo in an emptyClub Titiboo theatre as a way of saying farewell to their bassist, Duster/Lucky. While this song being played, the player is shown a slideshow of monochrome images that portray how Duster joined the DCMC.

InChapter 8

The DCMC are seen again in Chapter 8, where they ask Duster to perform with them for the last time in the Concert Hall on the 24th floor of theEmpire Porky Building. However, their concert is cut short when the power goes out, with an announcement calling Lucas' party to the 100th floor. They later help Lucas and his friends defeat the last remainingMecha-Porkies.
