Bud is a character inMother 3. He can often be found practicing comedy routines withLou.

InMother 3

Lou and Bud practice a routine based off of traditional Japanese stand-up comedy known asmanzai, in which Bud plays theBoke or "funny man". Their comedy routines follow the same pattern, which is talking about a random subject, making a pun with it, and then Lou proceeds to smack Bud on the head, followed by a simultaneous bow performed by both of them, as a two-key tune is heard. They can first be seen performing inChapter 1 during the search forHinawa,Lucas, andClaus.

InChapter 4, Lou and Bud begin working at theFactory, quitting their comedy routine. Speaking to them reveals they nearly forgot they did it in the first place because it was so long ago.

When the Factory is closed down inChapter 8, Bud moves toNew Pork City along with Lou. They begin practicing their comedy routine once again.

Name origin

In theMother 3 fan translation, Lou was named afterWilliam "Bud" Abbot of the Abbott and Costello comedy duo. His original Japanese name, Entotsu, is a play on a Japanesemanzai comedian namedYokoyama Entatsu.
