Thu 17 Dec 1953 - The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954)
Page 1 - "Southerly Buster" Relieves City
"Southerly
Buster"
Relieves City
A "southerly buster"
which reached Sydney at
12.15 p.m. yesterday saved
the metropolitan area from
a humid afternoon.
The cool change struck
Sydney shortly after midday,
after a very warm humid
morning. At noon the tem-
perature had reached 87.5
degrees.
By 1 p.m. the temperature
had fallen to 74.3 degrees.
Before the southerly struck
Sydney the maximum tem-
perature was 10.6 degrees
above average for December.
Temperatures exceeded 90
degrees at many places in
N.S.W. yesterday, and exceed-
ed 100 degrees at Nyngan,
Richmond, and Cessnock.
The highest State tempera-
ture was 106 degrees at Wal-
gett.
In the metropolitan area
to-day it should be fine and
mild.
The outlook for'Sydney to-
morrow is mostly fine
weather, with warmer tem-
peratures and north-east
winds._^^^^
