News Genius is the flagship project of theGenius Web Annotator and a journey into the future of journalism.
We’re a community of prize-winning writers, passionate readers, artists, designers, engineers, students, you name it. And we’re pushing the limits of how people have traditionally read and related to the news by annotatingnew stories every day, as well as original texts (liketranscripts andspeeches).
Rather than thinking of reporters and news organizations as the gatekeepers of information, we see news as an ongoing and evolving discussion between many parties. And we see our annotations in service of journalism. H/T to@thefix,Washington Post reporter, and our friend and spirit animal, for this graphic:
From theday’s biggest stories, to thelatest travesties of the fashion world, there’s something for you to dive into. And if you don’t see a headline you like on this page, we invite you to start a conversation literally anywhere else on the web.
To find out what other scholars are annotating, take a look under the hood with ourhot list, a roundup of the freshest stories with the most activity.
Join us onthe forum and say hi! And check out theGenius Web Annotator to get to know the tech.
There are three ways to get started making annotations on your own:
Install ourChrome Extension so Genius is with you everywhere you go. If you don’t use Chrome, try ourBookmarklet.
If you’re a publisher, you can installGenius.codes, our simple line of javascript, to Genius-activate your own site. If your site runs on WordPress, make your posts annotateable with ourWordpress Plugin.
Finally, our Genius.it/ URL lets anyone use and see Genius without downloading anything. Put “Genius.it/“ in front of any URL to annotate and read other Genius annotations on any page on the Internet.
And if you want to bring a friend along, tell them to sign up, it’s easy!Genius.com/signup
This essay covers the career of Jennifer Garner according to the audiences she appeals to, and has been marketed to.
Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, has a history of physical aggression. This Buzzfeed News article attempts to add some more sexualized accusations to his rap sheet, but doesn’t quite have the evidence or clarity of expression to back them up.
The News Genius community has been picking apart some rather spurious reporting about the way Yale’s NCAA chances have apparently been “overshadowed” by the sexual misconduct case involving Jack Montague.Join in here.
