This award recognizes excellent thesis research by doctoral candidates in the field of computer networking and data communication. The winner and up to two runners-up will be recognized at the ACM SIGCOMM conference. The winner receives a plaque, a $1,500 honorarium and a complimentary registration to the following year’s ACM SIGCOMM Conference. The runners-up each receive a plaque.

This award recognizes a paper published 10 to 12 years in the past in Computer Communication Review or any SIGCOMM sponsored or co-sponsored conference that is deemed to be an outstanding paper whose contents are still a vibrant and useful contribution today.

In March 2020 ACM formed a Presidential Task Force (PTF) to help conference organizers transition their events to online. The PTF is working on a guide to offer practical advice and shed light on the largely unfamiliar territory of online conferencing.
