Doug Miller

Principal Consultant

Doug started his high tech career as a technology consultant for Lakehead University in the mid 1980s before joining INTERACTIVE Systems Corporation (a Kodak Company) as a systems engineer in 1986. INTERACTIVE was one of the leading providers of UNIX systems technology and produced UNIX products for Intel platforms, DEC VAX, IBM and others. During his seven years with INTERACTIVE, Doug moved from a technical role to sales to eventually a general management role, running European operations. Sun Microsystems bought INTERACTIVE in 1992 and Doug stayed on to run European operations for Sun’s software subsidiary, SunSoft. 

In the mid 1990s, Doug had a successful technology consulting business and eventually founded Softway America in 1994. Softway America was a software reseller and service company specializing in UNIX, Linux and Windows integration products for the Intel platform. 

Recognizing the need for better solutions for Windows and UNIX interoperability, Doug co-founded Softway Systems Inc., a venture-funded Silicon Valley based software company, in 1995. Softway Systems built the Interix product, a complete UNIX environment for the Microsoft Windows platform. In 1999, Softway was acquired by Microsoft and the Interix product was merged into Microsoft’s Services for UNIX product line. Doug held the position of CEO and Chairman of Softway Systems up until it was acquired.

In 1999, Doug joined Microsoft and held a number of positions including Director of Competitive and Interoperability Strategy for the Windows Server division, Product Unit Manager for UNIX Migration Solutions and Product Unit Manager for Small and Medium Business Solutions.

After five exciting years at Microsoft, Doug made the decision to move back into the world of business and technology consulting.

Milltech Consulting Inc.

Milltech Consulting was originally formed in 1993 and at that time focused on helping companies in the UNIX operating systems space. The company has been active on and off since then and was re-established as a full time business in October of 2004. 

Doug Miller is the principal consultant with Milltech and leads all of the projects that the firm undertakes. Milltech works with a number of other consultants in the industry and can scale resources to accommodate a variety of client needs.
