Welcome to December – and welcome to your first December edition of ARIA Chart Watch, our weekly wrap of the ARIA top 100s!
Once again, the No.1 spots on the ARIA singles and albums charts remain blissfully unchanged. But there’s plenty happening in the 99 spots below each, so let’s kick on and find out what’s happening.

SINGLES
It’s a third successive week at No.1 for Ariana Grande and her new single ‘Thank U, Next’. No doubt the track’s time in the sunshine will continue over the next seven days, with the reveal of the official video overnight.
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are steady in the No.2 position with ‘Shallow’ (still no certification update from Universal, however), while George Ezra’s ‘Shotgun’ improves from No.4 to No.3 at the expense of Halsey’s ‘Without Me’ (No.3 to No.4). No doubt that’ll have something to do with him being on ground this week and performing the track at Wednesday night’s ARIA Awards.
There’s not much change elsewhere in this week’s top ten. But again, thanks to an ARIAs performance and some time on-ground, Rita Ora’s latest single ‘Let You Love Me’ finally cracks the Aussie top ten, jumping four spots to No.8.
There’s also another gain for the Ava Max single ‘Sweet But Psycho’, which improves from No.22 to No.13 and is on track for a top ten berth next week on current trajectory.
The superstar pairing of Calvin Harris and Sam Smith scores the week’s first certification; their former top five smash ‘Promises’ cracking over the double platinum mark, for sales in excess of 140,000 units (No.13 to No.16).
Lukas Graham pushes towards the top 20 with ‘Love Someone’ (No.31 to No.22), while the Billie Eilish track ‘Come Out And Play’ scores the week’s highest debut – at No.23.
Sheck Wes continues to climb with ‘Mo Bamba’ (No.39 to No.29), ahead of a new gold certification (35,000 units) for the Little Mix single ‘Woman Like Me’, despite the track never making it into the top 20.
Good news for Morgan Evans, with his single ‘Day Drunk’ picking up another eight chart places to a new peak of No.35, but not such good news for the P!nk rendition of ‘A Million Reasons’ (from ‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack), which is down 11 to No.38.
Hilltop Hoods enter the top 100 with a No.42 debut for ‘Leave Me Lonely’, XXXTentacion’s ‘Bad’ slips nine (No.38 to No.47), while the Kygo/Sandro Cavazza single ‘Happy Now’ hits the top 50 for the first time, improving five places to the even No.50 spot.
Beyond there, there’s a 26 place jump for Amy Shark’s ‘I Said Hi’ (No.78 to No.52) after her ARIAs triumphs. She’ll also be celebrating the single hitting a new triple platinum accreditation too. It’s now sold more than 210,000 units.
The Benny Blanco/Calvin Harris track jumps from No.61 to a new peak of No.54, while the Amy Shark single ‘I Said Hi’ is back in the top 100 at No.58.
Good news for Guy Sebastian; his single ‘Before I Go’ has been rolling around the lower reaches of the top 100 for the past couple of weeks. But this week, it’s starting to hit its strides (thanks also to some promotional appearances). It’s up from No.87 to a new peak of No.62.
Ellie Goulding, Diplo and Swae Lee’s ‘Close To Me’ also picks up some chart love this week, jumping 16 places to a new peak of No.64.
Christmas comes to the singles chart; Mariah Carey’s seminal classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ is back, re-entering the ARIA top 100 at No.65. It’s five times platinum certified (350,000 units) down under.
Ariana Grande’s ‘Breathin’ is down 19 (No.51 to No.70) and Peking Duk’s ‘Fire/Reprisal’ loses 14 (No.57 to No.71), but the 2017 Billie Eilish track ‘Bellyache’, which is platinum certified, makes its first ever ARIA chart entry at No.75.
Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ drops 16 (No.70 to No.86), James Arthur and Anne-Marie’s ‘Rewrite The Stars’ is new at No.88 and The Chainsmokers’ ‘Beach House’ improves seven positions from last week’s No.96 debut.
Conrad Sewell drops 18 with ‘Healing Hands’ (No.73 to No.91) and Khalid’s ‘Suncity’ is down much further (losing 32 places to No.92).

ALBUMS
No change atop the ARIA albums chart again this week; the soundtrack to the Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper’s cinema smash ‘A Star Is Born’ maintaining its lead over all others.
And while Queen were prised from their positions by new entries last week, they’ve got them back again this week.
The ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ soundtrack, for example, was knocked from No.2 to No.3 last week by Michael Bublé’s new album ‘Love’. This week it’s back from No.3 to No.2.
‘Greatest Hits’ dropped from No.3 to No.6 on last week’s countdown. This week it’s back up from No.6 to No.3.
Bublé is still there in the top five (No.2 to No.4), with Queen making up the rest of the top five with ‘The Platinum Collection’ (No.7 to No.5).
Missy Higgins scores the top ten love on debut for her best-of ‘The Special Ones’ (new at No.7), while Michael Bublé makes it two albums inside the ARIA top ten; ‘Christmas’ jumping from No.16 to No.9.
Amy Shark’s album ‘Love Monster’ is in the ascendancy again thanks to her wins at the ARIAs (No.25 to No.12), while Rita Ora scores the Aussie chart love with her new album ‘Phoenix’, which debuts at No.15 (easily bettering the No.24 peak of her debut ‘Ora’ back in 2012).
The Little Mix album ‘LM5’ is down eleven places in week two (No.8 to No.19), but there are gains for George Ezra’s ‘Staying At Tamara’s ‘(No.36 to No.20) and Human Nature’s ‘The Christmas Album’ (No.28 to No.21).
Samantha Jade fans are getting festive thanks to ‘The Magic Of Christmas’, which scores a No.23 debut.
David Campbell joins the festive celebrations with ‘Baby It’s Christmas’ (up nine to a new chart peak of No.24) and Andre Rieu soars a huge 70 places with ‘Romantic Moments’ (No.97 on debut to No.27).
There’s an eight spot jump for John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Friends For Christmas’ (No.37 to No.29), while Mariah Carey’s ‘Merry Christmas’ re-enters the ARIA top 50 for another year, jumping from No.52 to No.30.
Even Mark Vincent’s ‘The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’ is picking up the pace in the sales race, up from No.47 to No.32.
The new Karise Eden album ‘Born To Fight’ enters at No.37, but there are a couple of larger drops; Roy Orbison’s ‘Unchained Melodies’ down 12 from last week’s No.32 debut and Midnight Oil’s ‘Armistice Day : Live At The Domain Sydney’ down another 18 places to No.45.
The drop is even more pronounced for the Mark Knopfler album ‘Down The Road Wherever’, which loses 34 places from last week’s No.14 debut.
Thanks to his ARIAs hosting, Keith Urban scores a big 20 place jump for his latest long player ‘Graffiti U’ (No.75 to No.55), but there are big drops following for Barbra Streisand’s ‘Walls’ (No.34 to No.56) and for Ziggy Alberts’ ‘Laps Around The Sun’ (No.39 to No.58). Muse’s ‘Simulation Theory’ also drops (No.40 to No.60).
Take That enter the top 100 with their new best-of ‘Odyssey’ (No.63), but the news isn’t great for Anderson Paak, whose album ‘Oxnard’ loses a massive 47 places from last week’s No.20 debut.
Also losing ground in a big way this week is Sam Smith’s ‘The Thrill Of It All’ (down 35 places to No.73).
Architects’ ‘Holy Hell’ is down 28 (to No.85), Chris Cornell’s self-titled LP is down 39 (to No.92), Lil Peep’s ‘Come Over When You’re Sober Pt.2’ is also down 39 (to No.93).
But the news is even worse for Kip Moore and Mariah Carey; Kip’s album ‘Room To Spare’ debuted at No.18 last week, while Mariah’s new album ‘Caution’ premiered at No.15. Both are now gone entirely from the ARIA top 100.
* Adele’s ’25’ also exits the ARIA top 100 after a massive 157 weeks.
