Managers
The salary for Premier League managers is steadily increasing since Chelsea paid £5.4 million a year for Mourinho. Long gone are the days of top Premier League managers getting less than a million a year for managing millionaire players.
Current going rate is around £3 million for a top Premier League manager though your smaller clubs and recently promoted ex Championship ones can often be found paying circa £1 million or less for their managers.

Chief Executives
Whilst Premier League clubs report huge losses and are massively in debt, don't run away with the idea that the executives of the clubs are wearing hair shirts and wondering where their next meal is coming from. In particular the Chief Executives are doing very nicely thanks.

Backroom Staff
Since the cull of Mourinho and his Portuguese staff at Chelsea most of these below have now gone but we’ve left their salaries in as a guide given that backroom staff information is hard to come by.

FA Officials
Not much Sky TV football money is finding its way into FA salaries. Quite poorly paid for such a large multi-million pound industry. In fact the chairman, Lord Triesman, receives less than Chelsea pay their coaches.

Goalkeepers
If you want to make your fortune don’t be a goalkeeper. The lowest paid position in the team and such is the lack of interest in them that it’s hard to find any information on what their earnings are.

Defenders
Your top defenders at the top clubs are getting a decent sum but probably no more than the manager. If your not an international then your only going to pull between £1 and £2 million a year if your lucky.

Midfield
If you’re the right age i.e. late 20’s and can score goals then your in the big money with the strikers. So Gerard and Ballack are up their on £6 million a year. Otherwise your probably earning more than the Manager but not up there with the strikers.

Strikers
Obviously this is where the big money is to be had. The stars of the team and the ones everyone wants to pay big money for. Many think with the latest sponsorship deal for the Premier League that the £200,000 a week player is not far away.

Club Pay League
A good guide to how well the club is managed. Newcastle paid 5th highest salaries but sadly finished 12th in the league in the 2007/8 season. Also shows that Derby paid the lowest salaries and had the worst team.
Many teams also operate a salary ceiling for individual players: Aston Villa £3.5 million, Blackpool £520k, Tottenham £3.25 million.
Manchester City have probably moved to the top of the salary table now, but the latest figures available are for the 2007/8 season.
