Feb 22, 2015 - Repo is Up
- Officially working with 4096-bit gpg signing! There’s currentlyonly one package available, but once the cbpp-* packages become stable and function properly, we’ll be all set for distribution!
Feb 19, 2015 - general Bug Fixes
- Userspace initialization fixes underway.
- Dropped a few packages: cb-fortune and cb-wmhacks(still investigatingthe possibility of alternatives).
Feb 18, 2015 - Github Changes
- We’re going to be shuffling around some of the files on theGitHub repo.Specifically, moving each package to its own repo as we go through them. Fornow, if you’re committing to a package that’s in CBPP/cbpp, keep committingthere until it’s moved into it’s own.
- Why are they being moved? –In short, poor planning. Also, I’m changing thebuild format used for the packages and the file changes are drastic enoughto where the file size for a singular repo will quickly be exploding. So we’regetting ahead of it here early.
- The first separated repo is hereCBPP/cbpp-configs, thanks tonfultz, the newconfigs keep the terminal references agnostic, so you’re free to change your default to whicheverterminal you desire with significantly less configuration!
- cb-configs (now cbpp-configs) moved to its own repo and changed to acknowledgenew theme and icons with their new names.
- crunchbang-icon-theme (with contents of faenza-crunchbang-icon-theme) nowmoved to its own repo named cbpp-icon-theme.
Feb 17, 2015 - Now With SSL
- We’ve implemented an SSL certificate to provide HTTPS by default. Thanks toGregory Tomko atGlobalSign for the recommendation and setup help.
Addressing Some Controversy
Today I reached out to Philip Newborough – corenominal – creator of theoriginal #!. There has been some community concern expressed that the project’sname encroaches upon the original and that our teaser banner might be foundoffensive.
Corenominal responded:
I think there has been some confusion somewhere, I love the image and I have no problem with you using the CrunchBang++ name. I wish you all the best with the project and I hope it’s a huge success for you.
To clarify, no pain, love the image, love the name.
Keep rockin’
Feb 16, 2015 - How to Help
- TONS of people have been asking about how to help! Be sure to check out ourgithub repos bugs or suggestions via the ‘issues’ button.
- Git officionados should obviously feel welcome to clone the repo and have a look around. And obviously be sure to submit a pull request if you have any fixes.
Feb 15, 2015 - The Day the Crunch Stood Still
- Beta released!
- Primary public response has been incredibly supportive, thank you for your comments via twitter and reddit!
So what’s next?
- Cleaning! The packages on github and the .iso were solely intendedto provide a proof-of-concept. As such, there’s quite a bit ofincorrect information in them (maintainer, descriptions, licences).
- Our immediate plans for the future are to iron out some of the remaining issues in the distro (ideally before the impending official Jessie launch). The goal is to have a release client with no known bugs around April or May so that when Jessie becomes the new stable, we’ll be able to just run our build script, host, and enjoy!
- 64-bit version.
- A repo! Linux is about sharing and bettering the community, not only wouldour own repo give us the venue for updates within the distro, but also giveaccess to our new set of packages for those on other distros who might liketo experience the #!++ meta.
- Once we get to a fully functional release, then our plan is to updatesome of the nonessentials (new cb-welcome with more current options, new cb-pipemenus, new themes/backgrounds etc.)
