One ofNoh’sshitekata schools. TheKonparu School has the longest history of any of the fourYamato Sarugaku schools, and whileHatano kawaKatsu of theAsuka era is said to be the first generation of the school,BishaōGon no Kamiof theNanboku-chōperiod is also often said to be its founder. From theKamakura era, theKonparu Schoolperformed for theHatsuse Temple, and after that belonged to theEmai Troupe that performedShikisanban (Okina) as part of the religioussarugaku at the Kasugasha Kōfukuji Temple. During theMomoyama era, theKonparu School flourished greatly due to the immense support ofToyotomi Hideyoshi, who is said to have been crazy aboutNoh. This period produced many excellentNoh actors, and among these wasShimozuma Shōshin, who served at theHonganji Temple, and, while untrained, acted on stage in roles of grater status than his superiors and wrote many letters and calligraphy. However, asNoh changed toshikigaku with the coming of theEdo era, theKonparu School began to be pressured by theKanze School and new schools such as the Kita School. TheKonparu School is a very old style, and this antique and elegant style remains in theutai andkata. There is also aTaiko Konparu School, andKonparu Saburo Toyouji (? – 1458), the uncle ofKonparu Zenchiku, is thought to be its founder.
