These crawls are part of an effort to archive pages as they are created and archive the pages that they refer to. That way, as the pages that are referenced are changed or taken from the web, a link to the version that was live when the page was written will be preserved.

Then the Internet Archive hopes that references to these archived pages will be put in place of a link that would be otherwise be broken, or a companion link to allow people to see what was originally intended by a page's authors.

The goal is tofix all broken links on the web. Crawls of supported "No More 404" sites.
This is a collection of web page captures from links added to, or changed on, Wikipedia pages. The idea is to bring a reliability to Wikipedia outlinks so that if the pages referenced by Wikipedia articles are changed, or go away, a reader can permanently find what was originally referred to.

This is part of the Internet Archive's attempt torid the web of broken links.

commentary

Building on our global momentum, we have strengthened our position as the world's number 4 smartphone player and we are pleased with our progress. Even more, we are proud today that for the first time Lenovo is the number 1 smartphone company in China, the world's largest smartphone market. To win, Lenovo is focused on continuing to bring innovation, quality and choice to customers in China and around the world.

Globally, the smartphone market is shifting from premium to mainstream – and this trend favors Lenovo's strengths. We have experience from our PC success in building a strong, sustainable business in this kind of environment. Looking ahead, we will solidify our China smartphone business while focusing on profitable growth in this highly competitive market. We will also continue to boldly attack emerging market opportunities where we see even more room for growth. And, pending regulatory approvals, our acquisition of Motorola Mobility will give us a global presence so that we can become a true, strong number 3 worldwide and a credible challenger to the top players in the industry."

IDC's smartphone report demonstrates that Lenovo continues to have outstanding balance and strong momentum across our entire product portfolio. It has been a month of milestones. First, record high PC share as we approach 20% and strengthen our leadership in that market. Then for the first time we became the number 3 tablet provider in the world, with 64% growth. And now, record smartphone performance in China, solid expansion outside China and global growth of nearly 40% have made us an even stronger number 4 player globally."

"With our continued organic growth and expansion, plus the opportunity presented by our acquisition of Motorola, pending final approvals, we are in great position to maintain our momentum. We have tremendous balance between our core business – especially a profitable PC business – and growth engines like tablet, smartphone, enterprise and ecosystem. We expect to continue to build on these strong results."

Motorola is winning in the market, and their recent results show why they can be such a strong growth engine for Lenovo once our acquisition is approved. Their recent product launches have been successful. Their performance is even stronger than expected. And this is the perfect time for Lenovo to acquire this business and accelerate our own global mobile growth. Once our acquisition is complete, we will be able to bring more innovative products to more consumers around the world – and we will be able to build on the momentum Motorola has built in the market."

I wouldn't want to be selling Android boxes when Lenovo enters the U.S. smartphone market with the Motorola brand."

The China smartphone industry is very difficult to make money from, if you look at most Chinese players they're not making money at the moment. The fact that Lenovo is going overseas with Motorola … may come at a good time actually."

But make no mistake Lenovo is now a major player and it is noticeable Google has taken $750m of Lenovo stock options as part of the Motorola sale. If history tells us anything, it is Google rarely backs a loser…"

There are a lot of parallels here … Lenovo was strong in its home country in PCs, but the IBM buy gave them a global brand and a lot of access. In buying Motorola, they are buying a major brand, and a company that has established relationships with carriers."

We expect Yang can turn this into a profitable company in two years' time … Yang has a very good track record of acquiring non-profitable businesses and turning them to profit."

Do not underestimate Lenovo … Lenovo could replicate their success in PCs, particularly at the low end of smartphones."

If there was a Chinese company that was well-positioned to see this deal come off, it's Lenovo … They've done the dance before and they know what the steps are."

It's a better deal for Motorola…Instead of a software maker controlling a hardware maker, it's a hardware maker controlling them…Lenovo has a successful track record of growing IBM's PC business globally."

Lenovo was strong in its home country in PCs, but the IBM buy gave them a global brand and a lot of access…In buying Motorola, they are buying a major brand, and a company that has established relationships with carriers"…the Motorola buy "puts Lenovo in position to have leading offerings in smartphones, tablets, and PCs — a vital trifecta that no other global manufacturer has — besides Apple".

It makes strategic sense for both Google and Lenovo…It will give Lenovo a strong brand in the mobile space outside of China that they don't have today, and it gives them deep operator relationships with AT&T; and Verizon. And for Google, they're able to focus on the services side, which is what they're best at, and retain the patent holdings".
