If you are a Small Business customer, find additional troubleshooting and learning resources at theSupport for Small Business site. When you try to insert a picture into a Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac presentation, you receive the following error message:
This application cannot open this file. This file is an unsupported graphic format or may be damaged. Try opening the graphic in another application.
This issue may occur if the picture uses an unsupported file format or an unsupported color model. If the picture uses the Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) format, PowerPoint for Mac does not support the following graphic features:
Multiple alpha channels Formatting for IBM PC The Lab Color format Additionally, Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) pictures that use the cyan-magenta-yellow-black (CMYK) color model are not supported. PowerPoint for Mac supports its own native graphics filters and also supports QuickTime graphics filters. PowerPoint for Mac should support any graphics file type that is supported by your version of QuickTime. Therefore, you can insert most popular graphics file types into your presentation.
To work around this issue, you must modify and save the picture in a different file format.
The following picture formats are supported by Microsoft PowerPoint 2004 for Mac:
Windows Bitmap (BMP) Compressed Macintosh PICT (PCZ) Compressed Windows Enhanced Metafile (EMZ) Compressed Windows Metafile (WMZ) Encapsulated PostScript File (EPSF, EPS) Enhanced Windows Metafile (EMF) FlashPix (FPix, FPX) Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG, JFIF, JP2) Macintosh Picture (PICT) Macintosh Paint (PNTG) Portable Document Format (PDF) Photoshop Document (PSD, 8BPS) Portable Network Graphics (PNG) QuickTime Image Format (QTIF) Silicon Graphics Incorporated (SGI) Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) Targa (TGA, TPIC) Windows Metafile (WMF) The following picture formats are supported by Microsoft PowerPoint X for Mac:
