During the Clone Wars, Lom was the leader of a syndicate of spice dealers known as thePykes. Operating out of Oba Diah, they controlled the lucrative trade that delivered spice to the ruling crime families of the lower levels ofCoruscant. His spice-stained grin and hands suggested that he was more than just a dealer of the contraband substance. Sensing profit and opportunity to expand his operations, Lom allied his forces withDarth Maul's growing Shadow Collective.
The inscrutable Pykes are both a species name and a criminal organization. If there are Pykes not somehow connected to the spice trade, few in the galaxy have met them.
Darth Maul needed a broad base of criminal power to fuel his rise. As he coerced the Death Watch and conquered the Black Sun, he drew Lom's eager attention.
Lom worked closely with Ziton Moj during a sham invasion of Mandalore. The two gleefully posed as terrorists as they raided the defenseless Mandalorian city of Sundari.
Mandalore was in a precipitous position during the Clone Wars. Unaffiliated and unarmed, it was ripe for the picking by the likes of Lom and his criminal ilk.
