Cycling bosses give BMX World Championships thumbs up
New Zealand has received the thumbs up from cycling’s world controlling body, the UCI (Union Cycliste International) after hosting the BMX World Championships which culminated at the Vector Arena last week.
“Auckland went out of its way to make it a great event,” said Abe Schneider, the chairman of the UCI’s BMX Commission.
More than 2000 riders from 37 countries took part in the event on a 300 metre track which was built indoors in less than a week.

Australian Caroline Buchanan put the demons of the London Olympics behind her when she won the Elite Women’s title at the UCI BMX World Championships inside the Vector Arena, while Englishman Liam Phillips made the most of his opportunities after most of the sport’s heavy hitters had eliminated one another in a quarter final crash fest.

Fields defends title, Olympic Champion wins BMX time trial
A “perfect lap” propelled Connor Fields from the USA to victory in the elite men’s time trial at the UCI BMX World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand tonight.
Olympic champion Mariana Pajon of Columbia took out the elite women’s title by a 0.3 seconds from American Alise Post.
