As Chairman, David brings over 30 years of experience to Hecate Energy. He has successfully overseen the operational, strategic and M&A activities of leading power companies, including: Sithe Energies and K-Road Power ($4.8B and $3.0B market caps, respectively).

He possesses extensive experience in completing transactions, including: the $700-million acquisition of BECO’s generating assets; the $1.7 billion acquisition of GPU’s generating-assets; and, subsequent $2.1 billion sale of the Portfolio within one year.

David formulates unique financing structures for transactions while maintaining strong relationships with numerous equity funds, commercial banks and investment banks. Prior to entering the power industry, he worked as a Senior Vice President at a leading investment banking firm.

David holds a BS in Electrical Engineering, a BS in Economics and an MS in Management from MIT.

Chris offers 20 years of expertise in power plant development. Beginning his career specializing in site selection for natural gas power plants, he worked in nearly every aspect of power plant development thereafter. Including, founding and running several successful energy and energy-related companies.

Most recently (prior to founding Hecate Energy) Chris served as President and Board Member of OCI Solar Power. Previously, he held positions as founder and President of CornerStone Power Development; founder and President of 330 Investment Management; Managing Director at Peoples’ Energy; and founder and principal of CornerStone Energy Advisors.

Highlights from Chris’s career include managing the development and sale of a 130 MW solar PV pipeline; overseeing the growth of CornerStone Power Development/OCI Solar Power into a leading domestic solar power plant developer; and serving as lead advisor for the Sithe Energies $1.7 billion acquisition of GPU’s generating assets.

He is certified as both a CPA and CFA. He received his BSBA from Washington University in St. Louis and his MBA from Rice University.

Nick holds 20 years of experience working in strategy and operations for energy and high-tech companies. Most recently, Nick served as COO and Board Member of OCI Solar Power where he was the lead negotiator of the 400 MW solar PV PPA awarded by CPS Energy (the largest municipal solar project--that included an economic development and jobs-growth package--in the United States).

Nick also led the team responsible for developing a pipeline of over 300 MW of solar PV projects in the U.S., with the first project reaching operations in early 2012. He has also successfully led teams in the energy, telecommunications and manufacturing industries during the final stages of development for achieving commercial operations.

Highlights of Nick’s recent experience include: entering into solar PPAs with National Grid and Vineland Municipal Electric Utility; entering into exclusive development rights for a solar project with the City of East Providence, Rhode Island; and executing operations for a 3 MW solar PV facility on single-axis trackers in New Jersey.

Nick graduated magna cum laude with a BSBA from Washington University in St. Louis alongside Honors in Management and a concentration in Marketing.

Fazli brings over 20 years of utility and energy-industry experience as   Executive Vice President, EPC and Chief Technology Officer of Hecate Energy. He is widely respected in the industry for optimizing financial results through technology and design.

Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of EPC & Operations at OCI Solar Power. There he led the solar engineering and design of a pipeline with over 300 MW of solar PV projects. Fazli was also the technology architect for the solar design resulting in the winning proposal of CPS Energy’s 400 MW solar PV PPA. In addition, he oversaw the design and construction of the 3 MW Delsea Drive solar PV project in Vineland, New Jersey.

During his career, Fazli has held numerous leadership positions, including heading the Market Intelligence group at DTE Energy. There he developed complex stochastic financial models and electrical forward-pricing models.

Fazli holds an MBA from Duke University and a BS in Civil Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Most recently, David has been instrumental in structuring a 50 MW PPA with AEP Ohio that is combined with economic development for Ohio. David has worked with solar manufacturers to structure economic development initiatives, including the opening of a solar module manufacturing facility for two rural counties in Ohio.

He has founded two regionally focused venture capital funds (Adena Ventures and Hopewell Ventures) designed to invest in businesses with high growth potential in the central Appalachian and Great Lakes areas of the United States. He is also the founder of a newly created Ohio Appalachian Business Council and in 2010 served as co-chair of a successful statewide campaign in support of the Ohio Third Frontier. He is co-chair of the advisory council for the Voinovich School for Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University and a director of three privately held companies: iTRACS, Citizens Bank of Logan, and DFW Furniture.

David is a former campaign manager who rose to prominence as chair of the Democratic National Committee in the 1990s. David established himself as a leading manager of political campaigns, working for candidates such as Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Richard Daley, and the late Paul Simon. David ran the day-to-day operations of the successful 1992 Clinton-Gore campaign, directed its Electoral College and political strategy, and spearheaded the post-convention bus tour of the American heartland.

He holds an MPP from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and a BA from Ohio University, where he recently served as Chair of the Ohio University National Alumni Board.

Paul brings over 20 years of experience in the utility and energy industry. Most recently he served as a principal at Renergix LLC where he led the development of numerous 20 MW PV solar energy projects in Arizona for multiple U.S. and international energy companies. Paul also led the development of a 5 MW CPV project in Hatch, New Mexico, which was subsequently sold and is now operated by NextEra. 

Paul was formerly the CEO of Nacel Energy Corporation, a $120 million market cap wind energy company formerly traded on NASDAQ, based in Scottsdale, Arizona.  While leading Nacel Paul was responsible for setting the company’s corporate strategy, raising capital and developing a 110 MW portfolio of wind energy projects in West Texas. 

Prior to founding Renergix, Paul was a Managing Director at Peoples Energy Resources Corp (PERC), the unregulated affiliate of Chicago-based Peoples Energy.  While at PERC, Paul led the development of multiple natural gas-fired combined cycle and simple cycle power plants including the 1,150 MW COB Energy Facility near Klamath Falls, Oregon and the 280 MW Valencia Energy Facility near Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Both fully developed projects were sold with Valencia going to Public Service of New Mexico and COB sold to J Power.  Prior to joining Peoples, Paul was a principal at CornerStone Energy Advisors. 

Paul holds a Ph.D. in regulatory Economics and Environmental and Natural Resource Economics from the University of Wyoming, MSEE from New Mexico State University, and BSEE from the University of Illinois.
