Latest Raspberry Pi has double the RAM

16/10/2012

With a name that reminds us of a tasty sweet treat, Raspberry Pi is the £29 microcomputer that left tech experts salivating when it was released earlier this year. And now, with the announcement that the new model will feature plenty of increased specs, it's definitely something we'll want to sink our teeth into.

According to CNet, the latest version of the device, referred to as Model B now comes with 512MB of RAM as standard - twice what was previously offered. Meanwhile, the official Raspberry Pi blog notes that anyone with an outstanding order will receive the upgraded version automatically.

'Units should start arriving in customers' hands today,' says a blog post dated October 15th, 'and we will be making a firmware upgrade available in the next couple of days to enable access to the additional memory'.

The memory upgrade should help to improve the computer's ability to run multiple applications at the same time. It could also be used in an embedded system when, particularly one that uses Java.
