1994 Honorary Doctorate

One of the world's premier Native American flute performers and composers, R. Carlos Nakai received a BSEd in Industrial Arts Education in 1979 and an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1994 from NAU. He has garnered numerous other honors, including the Governor of Arizona Arts Award in 1992, Best Male Artist at the 1998 Native American Music Awards, and two Grammy nominations in the Best New Age Album category in 2000.

Larry Schnebly

1952 BS English

A past president of the NAU Alumni Association, Larry Schnebly earned his BS in English from NAU in 1952. While still a student in Flagstaff, he began his career in broadcasting in 1948. After radio and television jobs in Phoenix and Tucson, he retired from KGUN-TV9 in 1994, and is still active as a co-host for the annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, as well as on-air fundraisers for KUAT-TV, the southern Arizona PBS station.
