Head Coach Tom Flaherty ’94 enters his 11th season as Head Coach for Saint Joseph’s University Rugby after helping oversee the program’s promotion to Division I-AA in Fall 2011 from Division II. Coach Flaherty steered Hawk Rugby to Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union (EPRU) league titles in 2008 and 2010 and has helped lead the resurgence of Rugby on the Hawk Hill campus.
Coach Flaherty began his career at Saint Joseph’s University as an Inside Center and went on to have a great career with Media Men’s Rugby in Media, Pennsylvania prior to beginning his coaching career. Coach Flaherty is a 1994 graduate of Saint Joseph’s University (Pharmaceutical Marketing) and is the second of four members in his family to graduate from Hawk Hill. He resides in Springfield, Pennsylvania with his family and works in Pharmaceutical Marketing.
Position: Assistant Head Coach/7′s Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

Assistant Head Coach/7′s Head Coach Sean Duffy enters his third season as a coach at Saint Joseph’s University. Coach Duffy served as the Head Coach for Saint Joseph’s University Developmental Side in 2010-2011 before becoming Assistant Head Coach/Forwards Coach in Spring 2012. In addition, Coach Duffy is the Head Coach for Hawk Rugby 7′s and has compiled a 20-9 (.690) record in three seasons at the helm, including three straight appearances in the Las Vegas Invitational 7′s Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. Coach Duffy also has served as the Recruiting Coordinator for Hawk Rugby since 2009 and has successfully brought in over 40 student-athletes to Hawk Hill. Coach Duffy began his coaching career after a highly successful playing career at Saint Joseph’s University in which his squad won a league championship in 2008 and represented their conference in Mid-Atlantic Regional Playoffs in 2006, 2008, and 2009. He began his rugby career at Gonzaga College HS (Washington, DC) where he was a member of top-seven National Championships squads in 2004 and 2005.
Coach Duffy is a 2009 graduate of Saint Joseph’s University (Criminal Justice) and a 2011 graduate of Saint Joseph’s University Master’s Program (Criminal Justice). He resides in Philadelphia.
Position: Assistant Coach
Experience: 6th Year
Coach Downey enters his sixth season as an Assistant Coach at Saint Joseph’s University Rugby, working primarily with the Forwards and also serving as an Assistant Coach for Hawk Rugby 7′s. Coach Downey joined Hawk Rugby and has helped them to two league titles (2008 & 2010) prior to the promotion from Division II to Division I-AA. He began coaching after a highly successful playing career for Media Men’s Rugby (Media, Pennsylvania)
Coach Downey graduated from Shippensburg University in 1996 and resides in Philadelphia with his family. He works as an Enterprise Account Executive in Telecommunications.
