Popular culture is an often-overlooked part of the fundamental religious "quest" and the cultural understanding of "what religion is" in that like "high" art, thepopular arts and media not only explicitly portray religion and religious ideas, but also serve the "religious" purpose of conveying meaning in the people and values it represents. Articlesin the JRPC are not restricted to any single religious tradition or definition of religion, or to any single disciplinary approach. Both "theological" interpretations, and analyses whichexplore the intersection between Media Studies/Film Studies/Cultural Studies and Religious Studies in all their diversity, are encouraged. Religion may be conceived in terms of the expression of corebeliefs and values, constructed in dialogue between the individual and culture, including popular culture, or purely as a cultural construction.
