Although Kathleen Madigan is small in stature, she is huge in laughter. For those who say there are no good female comedians, they have never seen Madigan perform in front of a live audience. A regular in the clubs, theaters, talk-shows and festivals, Madigan has proven to be one of the top female comedians out there today. Dubbed by Jay Leno as "one of America's funniest female comics," she is currently putting her comedic talent to use as a writer, producer, and performer on Lewis Black's "The Root of All Evil," which airs on Comedy Central.
In 2004, Madigan was a season two contestant on NBC's "Last Comic Standing," and in 2007 was a talent scout during the show's fifth season. Other television appearances by Madigan include stints on E!, CNN's "Not Just Another News Show," SoapNet, A&E, Lifetime, and Style TV, as well as regular appearances on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." Madigan's infectious presence is not only limited to television. Madigan hosted her own show on Sirius Satellite Radio's Blue Collar Comedy, "The Kathleen Madigan Show," for which she was awarded the 2007 Sirius Radio Comedy Cup. Madigan has three CD/DVD's under her belt: "Kathleen Madigan Live," "Shallow Thoughts for the Happy Soul," and "In Other Words," released on CD/DVD 2006.
Born in St. Louis Missouri, Madigan grew up in your typical Irish-American family. After completing her education at Southern Illinois University and majoring in journalism, Madigan decided to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.
In 1996, Madigan received an American Comedy Award for "Best Female Comedian." Following this, Madigan first appeared on HBO in 1997 on the network's "Comedy Half Hour." Since then, Madigan has made great career strides. Some of her notable appearances include Just for Laughs: the Montreal Comedy Festival in 1999, 2005, and 2007, "Comedy Central Presents" in 2000, as well as spots on the World Comedy Tour and the USO Comedy Tour in 2002. Two years later, Madigan contributed as a writer for the 2004 Emmy Awards.
Since first appearing on HBO in the late nineties, Madigan's impressive resume has grown to include steady appearances on "The Late Show with David Letterman," guest spots on "Hollywood Squares" and popular specials such as VH1's "Best Week Ever," "I Love the Nineties: Part Deux," and E! Network's "101 Most Unforgettable SNL Moments." This past year, Madigan also lent commentary to the History Channel's "History of the Joke." To date, Madigan is still a regular guest on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
