Thank you to our faculty, staff, students and alumni who, since Summer2010, have participated in Western’s strategic communications review. Weappreciate having your perspective to better understand how we tell Western’sstory by highlighting the teaching and research that occurs on campus and theimpact that work is having nationally and internationally. Western is a complex organization with multiple identities and symbols, which sometimes hinders our ability to communicate the impact of the Universityas a whole.Establishinga more unified visual identity for Western will strengthen our ability to gaingreater recognition for our world-class research and teaching that is making adifference both at home and abroad. From June to December 2011, in cooperation with Hahn Smith Design, acommunications and design firm, we involved faculty, staff, students and alumniin a discussion about Western’s visual identity—the logos and words we use todescribe the University. We conducted online and in-person surveys, workshops and individualinterviews with close to 5,000 alumni, donors and friends, more than 3,700students and approximately 2,000 faculty and staff members. We are grateful you took the time to respond and share youropinions. Without this engagement, we would not have the comprehensiveperspective we require. We have now concluded the consultation process for our visual identityreview. Early in 2012, we will be revealing Western’s new, exciting and bold visualidentity on Western’s homepage. We hope you will embrace this new identity forWestern and feel pride in your connection to it. Sincerely, Amit ChakmaA Message From Our President
