The Kalimok-Bruschlen Protected Site is found on the eastern side of the former Tutrakan Plains between Rjahovo and Tutrakan, and it includes all of the islands of the Danube in this area: Miska, Large and Small Brushlen, Pjasacnik, Bezimenen and Radecki.
This protected site has been developed to preserve one of the few unspoilt water worlds of the Danube with its special biological variegation. This area is the most interesting one out of the ten protected sites in Bulgaria.
Conservation of the region is ensured by the natural marshes and the riparian wetland habitats. This area provides habitat for flora and fauna and a nesting place for birds that are rare not only in Bulgaria, but in Euorpe as well.
