Abolition Now held an anti-nuke (and anti-war) march and rally on May Day (May 1), 2005 and I was there. The event was endorsed by United for Peace and Justice. The crowd began gathering on First Avenue, entering on 50th Street (but stretching for blocks on either end) at 11AM - I got there at 11:30. There were a lot of Japanese people there, some all the way from Japan. I also met a fellow from San Francisco wearing an IWW cap who was with Physicians for Peace. I overheard a lady tell another lady she had come from Missouri.

We began marching and didn't go past the UN but only near it unfortunately. I talked to an older man about the war, he said he thought only organized working class people would put an end to wars. I knew the march was going to go to Central Park and try to form a giant peace symbol, but since I go to Union Square every May Day and wanted to as well this year, I cut out on 42nd Street and Lexington and began walking downtown.
