The RheinEnergie Stadium is home to 1. FC Köln.

During the FIFA World Cup in 2006 it was the venue for five matches, all sold out with a total of 225,000 spectators. The team regularly welcomes crowds of up to 50,000 spectators for home games. In the 2008/2009 season, an average of 48,300 spectators flocked to the RheinEnergie Stadium for the club’s home games in the Bundesliga. This put the club 9th in the ranking of all professional clubs across the country - beating clubs in the top division such as Bremen, Nürnberg and Hannover 96.

Some affectionately call it the “jewel box”, others acclaim it to be “the most beautiful stadium in Germany”. The RheinEnergie Stadium is without doubt one of the most attractive footballing venues in the world. International Olympic Committee and Internationale Vereinigung Sport- und Freizeiteinrichtungen e.V. also recognised this fact in 2005, awarding it a bronze medal for being one of the best sporting venues in the world.

50,000 spectators can join in the excitement and allow their emotions to run free when 1. FC Köln take to the pitch for Bundesliga matches. But it is not just the home of fans, it is first and foremost the home of the 1. FC Köln players. So it almost goes without saying that it is red and white, which predominate in the stadium, alongside the millions of deep green, well-manicured blades of grass.

The RheinEnergie Stadium is also home to the FC Museum. For the first time in the history of 1. FC Köln, the history of the club is showcased and documented in a permanent display – exhibits from the past and present of the “Billy Goat” club; almost 60 years of stories and history in red and white...
