We asked Simon to put down his pen for a few minutes and asked him some questions about subjects that have been dropping through our email box recently.
Q. Will you be making more Simon's Cat films soon?
A. Definitely! In fact I'm making one right now.
Q. What is the next film about?
A. Haha! I don't want to give too much away! But when it's finished it will be something that every single cat-owner will be able to relate to. Even more so than 'Fly Guy'.
Q. Why has it taken so long for you to make another film?
A. It has been a little while since the last film because I have been really busy working on a second Simon's Cat book. So I've been hidden away, coming up with new ideas and of course, drawing hundreds of new pictures.
Also, because many people have been writing in and asking for them, I've been busy creating illustrations for some new Simon's Cat products. For example a diary and calendar, which are so packed with new drawings that they are almost like little books in their own right.
Q. Before I ask about the second book, how did it go with the release of the first book?
A. It went very well. The book was released in over 20 countries and in total has sold over half a million copies. It has been a big surprise for me how popular the book has been.As I started with the films first, I didn't know if people would enjoy the book as much. But I've had some really lovely emails from people telling me how much they've enjoyed it.
Q. What can you tell us about the second book?
A. It's called 'Beyond the Fence'. This is because most of it takes place outdoors. So it's an imagining of what Simon's Cat and possibly all cats do when they are out of sight andon their adventures. It's another fun book, with some surprising locations for Simon's Cat to visit. I really enjoyed working on this one because it gave me a chance to include my lovefor wildlife and the outdoors. It's another thick book and I'm very happy with it!
Q. Is there anything else you'd like to say?
A. I'd just like to say a very big thank you for the on going support I have received and for all the kind messages people have taken the time to send me. I enjoy looking at all thephotos people have been posting on the Simon's Cat Facebook page, so thank you also for sharing your cats with me as I share mine with you!
