WAYNE, N.J. - William Paterson University wide receiverJoel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) will try out for the NFL's New York Jets when the team conducts its Rookie Minicamp starting Friday, April 30. Rivera, who completed his college career as a Pioneer this past fall, was named to the All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) First Team for the second straight year after starting all 10 games during the 2009 season and catching 51 passes for 751 yards and nine touchdowns.

PITMAN, N.J. - William Paterson senior center fielderChristina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) was named the April 26 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Softball Player of the Week. Zippler hit .526 (10-19) with three steals, five RBI and two runs scored, adding two walks for a .571 on-base percentage and a .526 slugging percentage.

Jacob Baron (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) was picked as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season when he was selected for the April 26 award. In just his second career start, Baron pitched his first complete game during a 4-2 win against Rutgers-Camden April 24.

CAMDEN, N.J. – William Paterson (23-12-1, 8-6 NJAC) kept pace in the race for a bid to the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Softball Tournament with a pair of one-run wins at Rutgers-Camden (18-13, 5-9 NJAC), 3-2 and 5-4, April 24. With four regular-season games remaining, the Pioneers are in fifth place in the league standings and are looking to secure one of the six bids available for the conference tourney.

Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and matched William Paterson’s career record with a pair of doubles, in a 16-9 losing effort by the William Paterson baseball team (15-15-1, 5-7 NJAC) against the visiting Red Hawks of Montclair State (17-11, 8-5 NJAC) April 23. With his two doubles, Guadango matched the top career mark of 52, established by Bryan Graham (2000-03).

WAYNE, N.J. – Baseball sophomore outfielderJack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) was named the William Paterson Pioneer of the Week April 26.
Montanile hit a team-best .556 (10-18) last week, contributing a double, two RBI, five runs scored and three outfield assists. He was 2-for-5 and scored three times during a 16-5 win at Rutgers-Newark April 22, followed by a 3-for-5 effort, two assists, a RBI and a run scored against Montclair State April 23. He went a combined 5-for-8 during a doubleheader split against Rutgers-Camden April 24, including a 3-for-4 effort in a 4-2 night-cap win.
