[The PC Guide |Systemsand Components Reference Guide |Video Cards |Video Memory Technologies ] Window RAM (WRAM) Window RAM orWRAM is a modification of regular VRAM that both improvesperformance and reduces cost on a bit-for-bit basis. Designed specifically for use ingraphics cards, WRAM is also dual-ported but has about 25% more bandwidth than VRAM, andalso incorporates additional features to allow for higher performance memory transfers forcommonly used graphical operations such as text drawing and block fills. Furthermore, WRAMis less expensive than VRAM to manufacture (although still more expensive than DRAM). WRAM is suitable for use in high-end graphics cards and was first made popular byMatrox's Millennium series. A card with WRAM and a sufficiently fast RAMDAC can handleeven very high resolutions (1600x1200) at true color.
