Euclid Corridor Poised for Artistic Vitality Through Public Art An important component of the Project will be including integrated and independent permanent artworks along the Corridor. Cleveland Public Art was awarded the contract to develop a Public Art Master Plan to identify both public and private art opportunities that will highlight artistic merit and community benefits. The artworks will be integrated with the overall urban design, including lighting, streetscape landscape, and bus stations. Cleveland Public Art started its effort to involve Greater Clevelanders last fall at the Cleveland State University College of Urban Affairs with a symposium involving public art experts from around the country. Since the kick-off, Cleveland Public Art has sponsored several artist-led community focus groups in neighborhoods along the Corridor. "Information and ideas gathered through these meetings will serve as the basis for the Public Art Master Plan," says Lillian Kuri, Executive Director of Cleveland Public Art. The ideas discussed at the focus groups have emphasized looking for public art projects that relate to the unique neighborhoods along the Corridor, as well as projects that, visually, will help tie it together from end to end. Cleveland Public Art captured many ideas developed during the focus groups and presented them to the RTA Board, City of Cleveland Design Review Committee, and the City of Cleveland Planning Commission. The groups found the approach to be exciting and are looking forward to the completion of the Public Art Master Plan and specific proposals. Neighborhoods have been studied from Public Square to East Cleveland, where that city is in the process of creating its own Arts District. "We hope that RTA's initial investment will serve as a catalyst for private funding for additional Public Art in and around the Euclid Corridor in the future," says Kuri.
