Flagship CA7460 Unmanned Car
The flagship Red Flag CA7460 unmanned limousine is the first China “smart” automobile, having been jointly developed by FAW Group's engineering development and test center, and the National University of Defense Technology. The unmanned high-tech vehicle is a leap ahead for the automotive industry, featuring the core technology for vehicle active safety systems and smart cars. The impressive performance of flagship CA7460 has thrust FAW Group into the spotlight as the global leader in “smart” vehicle development. The unmanned limousine can cruise effortlessly at 130km/h and has a top speed of 170km/h. With its advanced computer control systems, the car can safely pass other vehicles on the highway. As China's first and most famous automotive brand, it is fitting that the handsome Red-flag CA7460 limousine be the first vehicle in China to incorporate this revolutionary technology.
 

CA6100SH8 Hybrid Coach

Since the early 1990s, many global bus chassis manufacturers followed FAW's lead by making large investments toward the research and development of commercially viable hybrid-powered bus platform. With a strong code of environmental responsibility, FAW gave priority status to the development of new cutting edge hybrid bus chassis in early 2002 that could both lower vehicle emissions and increase fuel economy. Envisioning the potential of FAW's new technology, the project received full support from China's central government, who has taken an aggressive stance within the current 5 year national development plan to reduce both emissions and fuel consumption nationwide. Through the joint efforts of FAW Group's R & D Center and FAW Bus & Coach Company, two prototype hybrid-powered buses were completed by the Wuxi division of FAW Bus & Coach on Dec. 10, 2005. The factory is now set to begin mass production of the new hybrid CA6100SH8 municipal transit bus, designed for today's increasingly popular BRT systems (bus rapid transit) and traditional inner city mass transit. This revolutionary new model with 10 proprietary patents delivers a fuel economy increase of 38% and an emissions reduction of 30%, compared to traditional buses. With a Euro 3 emissions rating, the new 80kW parallel hybrid drive system is scheduled for Euro 4 certification by late 2006.
 

Applying Whole Vehicle CAN Bus Systems

As traditional point-to-point communication and control modes cannot meet the requirements for today's advanced electronic control systems, CAN bus architecture has emerged as the industry standard for reducing vehicle wiring while creating unlimited opportunities for precision control of vehicle systems and their interaction. Not wanting to limit usage to engine management systems as some manufacturers have done, FAW's R & D Center initiated a whole vehicle CAN bus research project in 2003. The result is FAW's new proprietary CAN bus vehicle electronic platform, the first independently developed in China for commercial vehicles, including a series of standards for high and low speed CAN, LIN, and plug-in diagnostic software. This advanced CAN/LIN mixed communication network has been applied to an exciting new generation of FAW commercial vehicles set for launch in March 2006.
 
Aowei 8.6 L Diesel Engine
Following the demands of the heavy truck and bus/coach markets for a weight-sensitive engine offering both ample power and impressive fuel economy, the Dalian division of FAW Truck Company has recently introduced the electronically-controlled, common rail 350 horsepower CA6DL2-35E3 engine. Incorporating a four valve per cylinder design for strong low end torque, it offers smooth operation, excellent response, and significant fuel savings. Representing FAW's first step into the high horsepower truck diesel market, this environmentally friendly Euro 3 engine marks the beginning of an exciting new series of high horsepower engines from FAW. Compared to similar engines, the CA6DL2-35E3 scores high in fuel consumption and noise reduction. Offering world-class performance at a very competitive price, this new family of engines is sure to become a standard by which other engines are judged for years to come.
