Take part in the voting!

Tonight: National final in Greece

Tonight, the Greek national final for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest will be held. Sakis Rouvas performs all three songs and then it will be decided, which of them is going to be the 30th Greek entry in the competition. For the first time, the readers of esctoday.com can take part in the voting process as part of the international jury.

The show

The show to be broadcast on ERT and ERT World will start at 22:00 local time (21:00 CET) and it will be hosted by Betty & Mathilde Maggira at the Athinon Arena Music Hall in Athens. Sakis Rouvas will perform all three songs and the winner will be chosen by televoting (60%) and a jury (40%), which includes the votes of the esctoday.com voters (read more below). Many representatives from other countries will appear in the gala show: Chiara from Malta with What if we, Jade from the United Kingdom with It's my time, Petr Elfimov from Belarus with Eyes that never lie, Christina Metaxas from Cyprus with Firefly and Hadise from Turkey with Düm tek tek.

Your opinion counts

Readers are invited to vote for their favourite song in a special poll now. Greek readers cannot vote in the poll. They will have the opportunity to vote in the televote, worth 40% of the result in the final. The international result will be delivered by Stella Floras, as one seventh of the jury vote.

Back-up voting locations

Once again, the voting will not allow people to vote more than once, whereever they log in from.

Webcast

The show will be streamed live on eurovision.tvhere and by ERThere. Octoshape plugin required for both webcasts.

Entries

Composer/lyricist in brackets.

  1. Out of control (Dimitris Kontopoulos/Alexandra Zakka)
  2. Right on time (Dimitris Kontopoulos/Craig Porteils, Cameron Giles-Webb)
  3. This is our night (Dimitris Kontopoulos/Craig Porteils, Cameron Giles-Webb)

Greece has been one of the most succesful countries in the Eurovision Song Contest in recent years not finishing outside the top ten since 2003. In 2008, Kalomoira won the first semi final and finished third in the final in Belgrade with her entry Secret combination. In 2009, the country will take part in the second semi final on 14th March.

I cant believe how bad the song choices are! Come on Greece - you're always so good, why have you gone and chosen three mediocre songs.

Clearly ERT don't want to risk the cost of hosting the 2010 contest in the credit crunch.

I'm fed up to the teeth of everyone going on about 'Fairytale' - it had better be good after all the hype.

Good luck tonight! I will watch the performances before I decide which song I'll vote for. So far I think "This is our night" would be the best choice.

w s
And the Swedish jury consisted of professional musicians in 1971-1973.

Mina Carnation [51405]
Wed 18 Feb 2009 16:13:33

Or San Marino, w s. It has an even smaller population than Monaco.
lol

w s [29210]
Wed 18 Feb 2009 16:06:56

Pity Monaco isn't in the contest anymore. Their jury would have consisted of more members then there would have been televoters.
And imagine the contests of '71, '72 and '73, when each country had only two jurors.

at least voters were more than 5 lol

LMAO

Wed 18 Feb 2009 15:55:41

@mina, trust me juries will make people to complain and suffer from the results more (i also wish we could learn their votes and the votes by public) than the televoters . i know i wont be happy with our juries votes i know their votes and wont be so different from the old ones, really sad i dont want 5 people to decide for me , 5 people cant represent 80 million at least voters were more than 5 lol and now these 5 people will be equal to the whole voters sad:(

@desire are there really more than 4 billion in your population?

Mina Carnation [51405]
Wed 18 Feb 2009 15:50:09

our votes will be so different this time cuz of jury! i really dislike it and probably they will kill our faves with their silly and unfair votes which is so sad

That's what I think, too:(
At least I hope the next day they tell us what people voted and what the jury voted!
Because knowing our jury gave ZERO points to one of my most favourite esc songs ever (and not only mine), Hold me now, (only the greek and the icelandic jury gave that song 0 points)..I'm very scared:S

@cyprus and w s i really couldnt get the problem between u sorry i hope u will solve it soon , but i just know that cyprus should win this year is a greek cypriot not turk anyway @turquality fire : problem is here people dont watch esc sometimes they talk about it but they dont watch or vote do u know last year how many people it here? only 2 million which is lower than %0,05 of our population so we cant complain about our votes if we dont watch or if we dont vote we cant say why immigrants vote for themselves and getting the best points it is very very normal. i cant blame anyone cuz of it. this will be the first time more people r gonna watch it here first time many news about esc on channels this is hadises sucess but i think our votes will be so different this time cuz of jury! i really dislike it and probably they will kill our faves with their silly and unfair votes which is so sad:(:(:(

@Everyone

Can we pls return the chat here to the MUSIC???? There are a few people here, 1 girl and a few guys(oh yes we can all tell who they are) who love to turn the chat political, turn it to fights "i hate u cos u said 3 yrs ago that u don't like me etc" and things are getting very nasty before we even realise it...

It's a great night today, THIS IS OUR NIGHT GUYS !!!! LOL

Try not to spoil it, instead can someone reveal to us if there are any surprices for tonight? I hope they would do something with the link as I'm expecting thousands to try and watch it and i hope the link can hold.. As it would be a 5 hour show (as every year) can u imagine if when Sakis comes out the links falls??? aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh who i should wish that to happen, let's see i've got a few "good friends" here who i am sure they dont admitt it but dying to watch it lol

:P

to w s

if you think i am those names that you have in your head it shows how obsessed you are and how you spend your time to study those names that are recorded in your head, but without any proof of evidence you claim i am those people that you mentioned on your list, it goes to show how ignorant and how stupid one can get. I know who i am and i know my self better than you so you can say anything about me call me troll etc....you can only prove what you are. So goodbye.

anyway i must ignore the sikness of w s and i sure have better things to do. if he was normal he wouldn't even bother to attack me continuously would he? Well, unfortunatelly he is ill.

I have a tiny comment about Jade.
She is a very talented and beautiful artist but her song is sooo old fashioned and if it didn't Andrew Lloyd Weber's signature no one would have waisted a bloody moment to make a comment about it. Songs like that have come and gone in this contest without much success.

There i've said it...
