About Us

Syracuse University Project Advance is a partnership linkingSyracuse University with secondary schools. Through this partnership, high schools offer qualified seniors the opportunity to enroll in Syracuse University courses for credit. Courses are offered in high school classrooms during the regular school day. They are taught by high school teachers who have completed graduate seminars in their subject areas and been named adjunct instructors at SU.

• Project Advance serves a five-state area: New York, New Jersey, Maine, Michigan, and Massachusetts.

• Approximately 8,000 students in 170high schools annually enroll in SU courses through Project Advance.

• 680 teachers are certified as adjunct Syracuse University instructors offering SU courses

• Students seeking a bachelor's (or four year) degree who have taken SU courses through Project Advance typically complete their program within four years, as compared to the average of over five years for all students. This can result in less expense for students and their families. Some students even complete their degree in less than four years.

• Courses offered through this extended campus program are the same as those taught to freshmen and sophomores on the main Syracuse University campus. However, the partnership with the high school allows for a tuition discount of over 75% per credit hour than the tuition for traditional part-time SU students.

• Project Advance also provides in-service training andprofessional development for high school instructors, a continuing forum for communication between high school instructors and university professors, and extensive ongoing research and evaluation for the systematic improvement of education.

•Syracuse University, through Project Advance, offers courses in accounting, American history, biology, calculus, chemistry, college learning strategies, computer engineering, cybersecurity, economics, English/writing, forensic science, French, German, information technology, Italian, presentational speaking, psychology, public affairs, Spanish, sociology, and statistics.

•Project Advance is not a profit center or a recruiting tool for SU.

Recent studies show:

•93% of Project Advance graduates who sent an official SU transcript or attended Syracuse University received recognition (credit, placement, and/or exemption) for their SU courses.

•93% of Project Advance graduates reported receiving an average grade of B or above through four years of college.

•95% of Project Advance graduates recommended SU courses offered through Project Advance.

•96% of principals and 90% of teachers involved with Project Advance felt SUPA helped students develop more realistic expectations of college work.

•92% of teachers involved with Project Advance found their jobs more challenging.

•92% of teachers involved with Project Advance reported they had been further exposed to new ideas and developments in their discipline.

Syracuse University is the only private university in the Northeast accredited by theNational Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).
