NAFTA has made North American businesses of all sizes more competitive by providing them with better access to intermediate inputs and capital sources from across the continent.
Under NAFTA, employment across North America has increased by almost 40 million jobs.
In 1994, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) came into effect, creating one of the world’s largest free trade zones and laying the foundations for strong economic growth and rising prosperity for Canada, the United States, and Mexico. For 14 years, NAFTA has demonstrated how free trade increases wealth and competitiveness, delivering real benefits to families, farmers, workers, manufacturers, and consumers.
The NAFTA partners have created this website to provide Canadians, Americans, and Mexicans with information about how NAFTA works and the many ways in which it has improved the lives of North Americans.
MoreIn August 2007, Canada hosted the 12th meeting of the NAFTA Free Trade Commission in Vancouver. The commerce Ministers of the three NAFTA countries issued a joint statement where they agreed to continue building on this record of success by looking at new and creative ways of further promoting trade and business opportunities within the region.
