"Gabala" Professional Football Club was founded under the name of "Goy Gol" on July 3rd, 1995. Its activity has been resumed since 2005. The team represented Khanlar region before. From the time of its existence having many well-known football players in its staff the team played in the first group of Azerbaijan Championship. "Goy Gol" was renamed as "Gilan" on May 4th, 2005. And at the end of the season the team received a certificate for supreme league of the Azerbaijan Championship after becoming winner of the first group. "Gilan" was removed from Khanlar region to Gabala during debut in supreme league in August, 2006 and started to represent Gabala city since then. Changes took place at the post of head coach of "Gilan" having failure in the primary matches of the supreme league. Young specialist Ramiz Mammadov was appointed to Faig Jabbarov's post. The team finalized its 2006-07 season in the 11th place under the leadership of Ramiz Mammadov. The image and name of "Gilan" achieved its main purpose - being in the supreme league did not change in the following season. "Gilan" PFC was renamed as "Gabala" PFC on August 31st, 2007. "Gabala" Football Club started to get good results after that. "Gabala" became one of the distinguished teams of the Premier League, and won against several experienced clubs in the final and took the 5th place. Besides, "Gabala" reached the semi-final of Azerbaijan Cup for the first time in a short period. Team's purpose is to represent Azerbaijan in European matches by struggling for the medals in the following season.
