John McClane must prevent a terrorist attack from happening at an airport where his wife is about to land. McClane only has 58 minutes to stop the attack before the plane lands. The success of this film allowed for the third film, Die Hard with a Vengeance, to be made which followedDie Hard 2 five years later. The film also received positive critical reception including from Roger Ebert who claimed it was "terrific entertainment."
Because Die Hard 2 is so skillfully constructed and well-directed, it develops a momentum that carries it past several credibility gaps that might have capsized a lesser film.
This is the most cheerfully preposterous film of a jaw-dropping summer, which is not to say it's not fun, it's simply orchestrated Looney Tunes.
