JIS D 5500 - Automobile parts--Lighting and light signaling devices
Scope
This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies principal lighting and light signaling devices (including reflex reflector) to be used for automobiles.

Definitions
For the purpose of this Standard the definitions in JIS D 0103 as well as the following definitions apply:
- high mount stop lamp - The stop lamp equipped at the relatively higher position on a central part of rear surface of automobile.
- vehicle median plane - The longitudinal median plane of the class of vehicle equipped with lighting and light signaling devices, specified in JIS D 0102 or JIS D 0109.
- applicable class of vehicle Single-lamp system - In the case where the class of vehicle equipped with the lighting and light signaling devices are identified, the name and type of that automobile or its popular name.
