The DELTA format (DEscription Language for TAxonomy)is a flexible method for encoding taxonomic descriptions for computerprocessing. It has been adopted by the International Taxonomic DatabasesWorking Group (TDWG) as a standard for data exchange. DELTA-format datacan be used to produce natural-language descriptions, conventional orinteractive keys, cladistic or phenetic classifications, andinformation-retrieval systems.
