The Basics of Registration:
Do I have to pay to use the site? There is no subscription charge to use CJOnline.com, except for Legislature.CJOnline.com, which is a paid content area.
Why should I register? So you can have full access to all stories and exclusive Web-only features on CJOnline.com and related sites.
How do I register? Just fill out our simple registration form. You will be asked these questions:
- Name - first and last
- E-mail address
- Postal address
- Age - birthdate
- Gender
Why are you asking for this personal information?
Two primary reasons: If we know more about the people using our site and how they use it, we can tailor our content to meet more people's needs. Also, we can offer the site for free because it is advertiser-supported. But advertisers, rightfully so, need to know as much as they can about the people viewing their messages. Up to this time, we did not know much about our users. Advertisers will be able to reach a more targeted audience and users will receive more relevant advertising and editorial content.
Are there any parts of the site that do not require registration?
Yes. Without registering, you can still access the classified ads, coupons, daily print ads, TopekaHomefinder.com, CJWheels.com, CJCareers.com and other special sections.
I have registered for other services and features on CJOnline.com and/or related sites. Will I need to register again?
Yes and no. The site registration is a separate program. Eventually we will have one registration for all services on CJOnline.com and related sites. If you are already registered on Legislature.cjonline.com, your account WILL work on CJOnline.com
Managing Your Account:
After registering, how can I log in?
You will not be required to log in until May 26. After that date, on the home page, you will see a link called "Member Center." Click on this and you will go to a Log In page. From there, you will enter your e-mail address and password. If your computer is set to accept cookies, you will not have to log in again, unless you have logged out.
What should I do if I forget my password?
Go to the Member Center page and click on the "Forgot My Password" link and we will e-mail it to you. It will be sent to the e-mail address you provided us during the registration process.
I use a shared computer. Should we all register separately?
Yes, you can, thereby saving your preferences. Of course, you will have to log out after each visit and log back in when you return.
I use a computer at work and at home. Do I need to register on each computer?
No. You have just one account and you can use it on any computer.
Are passwords and e-mail addresses case sensitive?
Passwords are case sensitive. E-mail addresses are not.
If I need to change my password or e-mail address, how do I do that?
Go to the Member Center and click on "Modify My Account." You will be able to make any changes. Then click on "Save Changes."
Can I access my newspaper subscription account?
At this time, no.
What should I do if I'm having trouble registering?
If you can't find the answer in this document, you can e-mailwebmaster@CJOnline.com or call Jim Debth at 785-295-1200.
