
Heinz-Harald Frentzen topped the times at Silverstone on Thursday as he made his track return forSauber, the team he started his Formula One™ racing career with back in 1994.Frentzen completed over 70 laps of the Northamptonshire circuit, with a best time of 1.21.646, as he familiarised himself with the C21. He worked on general set-up for the forthcoming US Grand Prix, as well as completing a tyre programme with Bridgestone.
Frentzen's day ended with the car in the barriers after he spun at Stowe trying to avoid some local wildlife that ran onto the track. Frentzen was unhurt, while the car suffered front suspension damage (see separate story).
Giancarlo Fisichella was second fastest forJordan, ahead of the Renaults ofFernando Alonso and Oliver Gavin, the latter standing in forJenson Button who pulled out of testing with dizzy spells on Wednesday.
Alonso worked on tyre development for the final round of the season in Japan, racking up over 100 laps, while Gavin conducted a software programme for next year.
Conditions at Silverstone were overcast but dry, with track temperature reaching 24°C. Thursday was the final day of this week's testing at the circuit.
