Input device maker Logitech said Monday that it will purchase the QuickCam business unit of Connectix for $25 million. The all-cash transaction gives Logitech, based in Fremont, Calif., a full line of digital cameras across a variety of platforms. At the high end is the Logitech QuickCam Pro, at the midrange level is the Logitech QuickCam Home, and the Logitech QuickCam VC rounds out the entry level. Market researcher InfoTrends Research Group said it is predicting image-capture technologies will experience compound annual unit growth of 60 percent through 2002 to reach more than 12 million units. Without the QuickCam business, Connectix, in San Mateo, Calif., will continue to develop PC and Macintosh software and utilities, officials said. |
