TheZyclops are the secondary antagonists of Pixar's 26th full-length animated feature filmLightyear, a spin-off to theToy Story franchise.

They are an army of robots who serveZurg in his attempt to travel back in time, get the hyper speed crystal, and destroy the Galactic Alliance. Once in the past to assist their master on his goals, the Zyclops take over T'Kani Prime, forcing its citizens into hiding.

They were voiced by the film's directorAngus MacLane.

History[]

The Zyclops serve as the robotic minions that follow Emperor Zurg during his time travels throughout the galaxy. The first Zyclop appears stealing Buzz's ship and bringing it to Zurg. It is then seen again trying to take Buzz to Zurg while the Galactic Alliance try to save him. Eventually, it was defeated (while losing one of his arms) which enraged Zurg to find and capture Buzz himself; on the way the rest of the Zyclops were obediently watching him. However, the Zyclop survived by using his backup battery and started trying to find Buzz and his team again.

Later on the rest of the Zyclops are sent to capture Buzz as the crew were on an unnamed planet, leading to an epic chase. While the chase was going, Moe and Darby were fighting them. Some of the destroyed Zyclops ended up being teleported to the ship. The Zyclop with the missing arm even tried to stop the ship where the crew was. But it was pushed away and seemingly destroyed. One Zyclop eventually managed to get the crystal, though it costed one of his legs. When Buzz refuses to give the crystal toZurg, the latter called two Red Zyclops to stop Buzz. Latter, a group of Zyclops were on their way to the hangar, but were eventually destroyed by Moe and Darby.

Following the warship's destruction. Nearly all the Zyclops were either destroyed or deactivated. But when Buzz and his team landed on T'Kani Prime, the Zyclop with the missing arm suddenly appeared and was about to kill them, only to get killed by a shot from Commander Burnside for good.

Trivia[]

The name Zyclops is a parody on the word Cyclops, a one-eyed giant from Greek mythology. Also like the cyclops, Zyclops have one red glowing eye.
- Their cyclops-like style is similar to the various Mecha of the Principality of Zeon such as Zaku in theMobile Suit Gundam franchise.
They each have two detachable objects roughly where their nipples would be. These are actually teleport beacons that can teleport a Zyclops back to the main ship if it damaged. If it loses these, it becomes stranded. They can also be used to teleport other people or objects to the ship instead.
There was a hidden reason why they keep referring Buzz Lightyear and their leader Zurg asB-Zurg ever time they speak, is because they can't pronounce Buzz's name correctly which foreshadows that Zurg is Buzz Lightyear when his first name has been scramble backwards after trying to say the B word first, while his last name Lightyear added a R and G at the end.
It is currently unclear how the Zyclop with the missing arm wasn't deactivated when the warship was destroyed, while the other ones were. It's possible that since it was defected from the damage, it couldn't rightly connect to the ship.
