History[]
The Chechen is a notorious mob boss and the leader of the Russia-based mafia in Gotham City who established himself as one of it's biggest gangland figures. Additionally, he is associated with Italian crime lordSal Maroni as well as being involved in a collusion with habitual offenderScarecrow - with the Chechen serving as a buyer for Scarecrow's fear toxin until he later tried to sell it back after it drives his customers insane.
Later on, the Chechen joins Maroni and fellow gang bossGambol in a private meeting with corrupt accountantLau regarding a robbery at one of their banks. They discuss hiding their fortune from the police when suddenlyThe Joker, a criminal mastermind responsible for the robbery, disrupts the meeting. As opposed to his conspirators' reaction to his presence, the Chechen is interested with the Joker's proposition to forge an alliance and kill Batman along withHarvey Dent.
Soon enough the Chechen manages to locate the mob's money with help from the Joker. However, the Joker sets the money on fire and takes control of Chechen's outfit. The Joker then tells the Chechen that he is going to order his men to follow orders from him now. When the Chechen refuses, the Joker orders the men to chop him up and feed him to his dogs, as they drag him away to his fate. The Joker would later use the Chechen's dogs to attack Batman in their final battle.
