Herman Schultz, better known asthe Shocker, is a minor antagonist in the 2002 video gameSpider-Man, an adaptation of theeponymous superhero film, and a supporting antagonist in its 2004 sequelSpider-Man 2, an adaptation of theeponymous superhero film.

He is a talented thief and supervillain that uses a set of gauntlets that launch blasts of concentrated air vibrations to make short work of anyone that opposes him. He is the first supervillain that Spider-Man fights.

He was voiced byMichael Beattie.

Biography[]

Spider-Man[]

He is first seen with hismen, then gets into a van that almost runs over Spider-Man; after Spider-Man webs it, Shocker and his goons get out of the van. Shocker then blasts Grand Central Station, then gets in, orders his men to take care of security and get some hostages. After Spider-Man deals with some of Shocker's men, Shocker shows himself to Spider-Man, Spider-Man tries to guess Shocker's name but fails, Shocker then reveals his name, Shocker then shoots at a wall to kill a civilian that is on the phone, but Spider-Man saves him. After Spider-Man deals with the rest of Shocker's men and saves the civilians, Shocker then shoots the floor to escape through the sewers, when he and Hsu men get down there, Shocker orders his men to ambush Spider-Man when he appears, Shocker then runs away.

Later on, Shocker appears in a sewer tunnel and then ordersVick to stop Spider-Man from catching him by using to block Spider-Man's path to get to Shocker. Removing the steering wheel, Spider-Man finds Vick and defeats him, then brings back the steering wheel to continue his chase with Shocker. Eventually, Spider-Man catches up to Shocker, but Shocker blasts a wall, then runs again, heading into the subway tunnels; when Spider-Man and Shocker get there, Shocker attempts to blast Spider-Man to stop him from catching him, but Spider-Man manages to avoid his blasts, Shocker then runs again, then blocks the path, but Spider-Man manages to find another way around it, then gets to the room where Shocker is, Spider-Man and Shocker then fight, Spider-Man defeats Shocker, then asks him whereVulture went off to, which Shocker reveals cause he knows he is beat and doesn't want Vulture to get a victory if he can't.

He is presumably knocked out and arrested after this.

In a secret cutscene (unknown when it happens) Shocker discoveres an old abandoned building that has still has a running generator inside of it. He starts draining the energy ready to begin his next plan.

Spider-Man 2[]

2 years later, Shocker got his chance to escape whenQuentin Beck released a bunch of villains to have Spider-Man catch in his quest to prove Spider-Man as a fraud. While most of the villains were recaptured, Shocker managed to slip away undetected and later get his gauntlets back and hire some more henchmen.

Spider-Man eventually became aware of Shocker's escape after Black Cat told him and confronted Shocker in a warehouse, where a brief battle ensued. Shocker lost but was able to escape after knocking out Black Cat while Spider-Man was dealing with Black Cat's injury. Shocker retreated to an Oscorp research lab, where he planned to use the technology inside to increase the power of his gauntlets further and use them to defeat Spider-Man. Spider-Man, however, was tipped off by Black Cat about this, and the two went to take down Shocker and, despite his juiced-up powers, lost to the combined effort of both of them. Shocker is then tied up again to be taken back to jail.

Trivia[]

There is a cheat in the firstSpider-Man game that allows you to play as Shocker, though as a reskin for Spider-Man. It is "HERMANSCHULTZ", which is Shocker's real name.
Shocker andVulture teaming up would coincidentally happen again inSpider-Man: Homecoming.
