Biography[]
Long before the events of the series, Queen Veranke and her fellow Skrulls had a foretold prophecy come to pass whenGalactus consumed their planet called Skrullos. That same prophecy foretold the Skrulls would be able to locate a new homeworld in the form of Earth, and from that point on, the Skrulls spent over a year kidnapping and replacing humans in key strategic locations around the planet, intending to enslave any who submit to the new rule and wipe out those who won't. As part of the plan, the Skrulls kidnapped and replaced Captain America of the Avengers, Madame Viper of HYDRA, Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four, King Cobra of the Serpent Society, Henry Gyrich of S.W.O.R.D., Clay Quartermain of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Lyle Getz of A.I.M. The Madame Viper imposter was eventually killed fighting Mockingbird on HYDRA Island, after which Veranke kidnapped and replaced thereal Mockingbird to infiltrate Nick Fury's Secret Warriors.
While posing as Mockingbird, Veranke diverts attention from her mole in the Avengers by tricking both Nick Fury and Iron Man into believing Hawkeye was the traitor, not Captain America. This results in the Avengers almost completely disbanding through strife, leaving only Wasp, Hawkeye and Hulk (who's later jailed by the Hulkbusters afterRed Hulk framed him for massacring the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier) behind to keep the team together while the fake Captain America becomes their new leader. Later on, once Nick Fury uncovers that Mockingbird and Captain America were replaced by Skrulls, Veranke (who's still posing as Mockingbird) takes down Fury, Quake and Black Widow with a stun blaster, while Iron Man is taken down with a hidden virus within his armor, all at the same location. Veranke tries to kill them all but gets interrupted when Maria Hill barges in guns blazing.
Veranke then orders her Skrulls to commence with invasion, ordering the fake Captain America to film himself on live TV and tell Earth's people to "embrace change" with the Skrulls, thus framing thereal Captain America as a traitor to humanity. Meanwhile, the Skrulls also hijack A.I.M.'s satellite array modified to wipe out every human on Earth; blow up the (thankfully evacuated) S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier and Damocles Base; take down a few dozen military installations around the globe; and teleport the Baxter Building into another dimension with the Fantastic Four still inside to keep them busy. After Ms. Marvel, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor rejoin the Avengers to stop the Skrull invasion, Veranke orders her Skrull mole at A.I.M. to activate the satellites and wipe out humanity as a last resort, but thankfully the satellites are destroyed just in time by Thor. Veranke and the Skrulls were then thankfully all defeated in quick succession by the Avengers, imprisoned within the Negative Zone's Prison 42 afterwards.
