| ~ Parasite/Rudy Jones |
Parasite, real nameRudy Jones, is a major antagonist inSuperman: The Animated Series and a supporting antagonist inJustice League andJustice League Unlimited. He was once a janitor at S.T.A.R. Labs, until he gets into an accident that mutated him into a energy-draining creature which spurred him to going on a life of crime.
InSuperman: the Animated Series, he was voiced by the lateBrion James, while inJustice League he was voiced byBrian George. A future version of Parasite was also voiced byMarc Worden in the episode "Epilogue".
History[]
Superman: The Animated Series[]
In the episode "Feeding Time", he first appears normal stealing chemicals with a thug named Martin Lebeau. When they were stealing the guards show up. Martin tried to kill them, but Rudy stopped him and accidentally caused a fire and escaped. Martin was tired of Rudy and he moves the truck, and the chemicals fall on Rudy and started to transform him. He begs Martin to help him, but Martin gets afraid of him and he causes Rudy to fall on the water on the bridge. Martin calls him a freak and drives off, and later Rudy becomes the Parasite. He absorbs energy from a mouse and then a police officer and he uses her voice to trick the cops by telling them that she's fine before he drives away.
Later, he wanted to take revenge on Martin and started to absorb his energy. However, Superman shows up and orders Rudy to put Martin down, which he did and tells Superman that he turned into a monster. Superman tells Rudy to let him take him to S.T.A.R. Labs so they could treat him, and he tells Superman to not hurt him. The hero tells him he wouldn’t hurt him, he tells him to grab him and Rudy absorb some of his energy. With Superman's powers, he uses them for crimes; he stole cash and other riches and he kept Superman prisoner so he could keep feeding on him.
Superman's friend Jimmy Olsen eventually tries to hit Rudy, but he hit him and absorbed a little of his energy, but Superman hits him and saves Jimmy. The hero continues his fight with Parasite and uses Kryptonite on him, since he has Superman's powers. Defeated, the villain is left harmless in his cell. When Superman, Jimmy and Hamilton leaves, a bug was with Rudy and he absorbs the energy from it and his eyes glow and he smirks as the episode ends.
In "Two's a Crowd", Superman is forced to ask for Parasite's help in learning the location of an atomic bomb by absorbing the memories of former S.T.A.R. Labs scientistEarl Garver, to which Parasite agrees in exchange for a television in his cell. However, Garver's mind unintentionally takes over Parasite during the absorption process and while Rudy fights to regain control of his body, Superman manages to destroy the bomb. As Garver is being incarcerated, Parasite is seen watching TV in his cell.
In "Double Dose",Livewire breaks Parasite out of prison and forms an uneasy alliance with him to kill Superman. After defeating Superman, Parasite betrays Livewire and absorbs her powers as well. Superman then triggers the emergency sprinkler system which, reacting with Livewire's vulnerability to water, temporarily strips Parasite of his memories once more. Parasite is then arrested and returned to prison.
Justice League[]
Parasite appears inJustice League. In the episode "Secret Society",Gorilla Grodd recruits him into hisSecret Society (along withGiganta,Killer Frost,Shade,Sinestro andClayface to defeat the Justice League. During the final battle, Parasite is defeated by Wonder Woman.
Parasite makes non-voiced appearances inJustice League Unlimited. In the episode "Clash", he defeats and absorbs the powers of Elongated Man and Metamorpho, and briefly engages Batman before being apprehended by Captain Marvel. He is later seen as a member of Gorilla Grodd's new Secret Society. In "Alive", Parasite sides with Grodd during the mutiny againstLex Luthor. He is last seen being frozen by a turncoat Killer Frost and he, along with the other mutineers, were blown up by a resurrectedDarkseid.
Batman Beyond Future[]
The Batman Beyond era episode "Epilogue" features a different version of Parasite, voiced byMarc Worden. It is unknown whether this Parasite has any form of connection to Rudy Jones. He is seen as a member of theIniquity Collective, an enemy of the Justice League Unlimited. He was eventually knocked out by Warhawk.
Powers and Abilities[]
Parasite has the ability is to absorb the strength, powers, memories and knowledge of anyone he touches.
Parasite's touch, visualized with animated electricity, leeched the energy of his victims to the point that they went into comas. Not only that, but Parasite can layer different absorbed abilities on top of each other, increasing them as a threat. Since the different incarnations of Parasite are all foes of Superman, Parasite frequently adapts superhuman strength, speed, durability, and stamina, flight, heat and X-Ray vision, super breath, and many more powerful skills by latching on to the Kryptonian.
However, Parasite was only able to keep his abilities for a limited time, typically between several hours to several days, meaning he must continuously feed off others to keep his energy. Additionally, Parasite could also adapt the weaknesses and disabilities of his/her prey, such as Superman's vulnerability to Kryptonite and Red Sun radiation, which usually results in their defeat -including- Livewire's vulnerability to Water and the Electrically-Resistant Substance, such as The Silicate Dust.
