Moria Mactaggert
Moira Mactaggert, also known asMoira X is a major figure in theMarvel Comics X-men franchise.
She was once know an human ally of the X-men and recently revealed mutant. But after being depowered and betrayed she became a cyborg and allies herself with ORCHIS. She is one of the main villains of the Krakoa age of X-Men.
Biography[]
Moira Mactaggert was born a mutant in a previous reality and grew up hiding this secret she would become a sucessful scientist and researach where she had inclufce other figures in her many lives such as magento,Professor X,and even Apocalypse. she had married an abusive husband who beat and rapes her into giving birth to their mutant son Proteus. She would also have fallen in love with Charles and later Banshee. Moira became an ally of the X-men and joined in several adventures while also having a for in Destiny and Mystqiue who killed her in a previous life and knew her secret. Over time however Moira would eventually become more and more disllustioned with mutants and the future because no matter how many times she kills the creators of sentinels they would always created it in amny timelines and nimrod was the cause of said downfalls. She would soon Meet up with both Professor x and magento to make the foundation of krakoa and make it a safe haven of all mutants there. Moira reveals herself to be a mutant to everyone and has since been trying to preserve Mutant Kind while also dealing with threats like Orchis and keeping Desity dead. However After the quiet concil revied Destiny into a young woman Moira was exiles and depowered voving revenge and after the time traveling wolverine tries to stop her while warning her of her actions of siding with the sentinels and phalanx Moira was nearly killed until she transfers her mind into an omega sentinel becoming a cyborg in the process and gained her 11th life. Moira would later become a member of Orchis since then and would later kidnap mary jane watson for her plans and During the events of Judgement day she would team up with Druig who she helps into destroy the mutants by telling him their secrets.
Later She poesses mary jane and told proteus how she never loved him and saw him as a tool and later comes into conflict with spider-man who teamed up with wolverine to save mary jane from Moira's control.
In the finally of Fall of X. Enigma (Nathaneil Essex) approach her with a deal. Let him absorb her but she will retain her individuality, in return Enigma will be able to acess Moira past timelines that are now no longer exist to gain more power. She accept the deal. Professor X try to undo Enigma existence by travel back in time to killed Moira before she activate her power at 13. But find himself unable to do so, so he erase her memory and go back to present to prevent time paradox.
Professor X then cobtract Nimrod and Omega Sentibel say that he along with machine and all mutants want to join Dominion and abandone the rest of humanity (Not knowing the dominion they join would erase their individuality). The machines accept. However, this deal would be nulify as other X-Men don't accept this outcome. They fight and evebtually destroy Orchis.
In the final showdown of Jean Grey/Phoenix Force vs Nathaneil Essex (Enigma) Professor X meet with Moira one last time, return her memory at 13 birthday and beg Moira to not join Enigma because she will be alone and regret her actions for the rest of Eternity. Moira eventually accept, allow Jean Grey/Phoenix Force to kill her and reveal Enigma hideout, Enigma eventually been defeat by combine effort of Jean Grey/Phoenix Force who manifest the power of all X-Men and trap him in moments of his dead for the rest of eternity.
At the end of the book, it was reveal to the reader that Jean Grey created a new timeline for Moira to be able to live happy normal life as she always want. This mark the end of Moira story and Krakoa storyline of Marvel universe.
Powers and abilities[]
Moira as a mutant poesseed the ablilty to reincarnate herself into other timelines and lives with her past memories intact in addition to becoming a scientist and doctor. Her only limitation is that her powers manifest at the age of 13 and she is fully mortal before then. After becoming a cyborg she has superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and durability as well as control over technology and mind control.
Trivia[]
- The decision from Marvel to retcon her from human ally of the X-men to an reincarnated mutant is disliked by some fans. Her descent into villainy makes the change even more controversial.
- In fact, many Marvel fans think the Krakoa era made X-men and mutantkind grow too distant from other human superheroes allies. Some even say that Professor X betrayed his own dream. However, it's also understandable from an in-universe perspective considering that mutants face many genocide events and their human allies didn't really help them enough.
