Maris Morlak is the overarching antagonist of the 2023 animated series,Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

He used to be leader ofThe Enclave after killing the original one, he seeks the new Moon Girl to recreate his old Portal Generator so he can finally gain the recognition he deserves. He was also Miriam’s former friend and lab partner.

He is voiced byWesley Snipes, who also playedSimon Phoenix inDemolition Man,Nino Brown inNew Jack City,Jason York inChaos andGeneral Izzi inComing 2 America.

Appearance[]

Marlis is an old, tall, black man with black hair and gray bits on the edges. He wears a white suit under a cyan tuxedo, with a yellow tie on it, a dark blue jacket on his back and a pair of pants the same color of his tuxedo. He also has a golden ring in one of his fingers and a pair of blue glasses on his eyes.

Background[]

Maris in the past was a scientist, part of the Enclave working with his best friend, Miriam to create a Portal Generator so space travel can revolutioned. One day their boss started not only presenting their machine to a military's general without them but also made sure to erase their involvement in it in anyway possible. That angered Marlis and he decided to turn the Generator on creating a portal to another dimension, where a tentacled monster pulls all scientists, the general and even the Enclave's leader leaving only a terrified Mirian and a satisfied Morlak behind.

Maris Morlak takes Mimi to the North Brother Island, where he forces her to create a new generator. Mimi attempts to speak to Morlak's better side, but he ignores her, telling her that he is tired of being overlooked. Moon Girl then arrives to save Mimi, but Morlak returns and opens the portal, bringing three giant monsters inside that he can control using a whistle. Lunella, Mimi, and later, Casey Calderon and Devil all team up to battle the monsters and send them back through three separate portals. Morlak is angered over being defeated and attempts to override the machine, refusing to give up. The portal ends up opening and sucking everything in, including himself. Mimi attempts to rescue Morlak, but he is sucked away.

As Lunella was saved byThe Beyonder after entering the portal, it's unknown what happened to Morlak, it's possible he was killed by themonsters he tried to control or maybe he survived the trip and ended up in some other dimension. Regardless he was never seen again for the rest of the series.

Trivia[]

Morlak was the very first villain to defeat Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur in the show.
The character was Wesley Snipes' first animated character.
This is the second time Snipes portrayed a Marvel Character, with the first time being Eric Brooks/Blade.
In the series finale, his name and voice actor appeared in the credits despite not appearing physically himself along with a verity of characters and cast.
