Kalabar, also known as,The Shadow Creature, is the main antagonist of the 1998 Disney fantasy filmHalloweentown, and the titular overarching antagonist of its 2001 sequelHalloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge.

He was a evil warlock who hated humans and wanted to conquer their realm.

He was portrayed by Robin Thomas.

Biography[]

Past[]

Years before the events of the story, a teenage Gwen went to a dance and fell in love with Kalabar. He also loved her, but Gwen turned away his love and married a human man instead. Sometime after that, Kalabar became Mayor of Halloweentown.

Halloweentown[]

Many years after that, Marnie, Sophie, and Dylan arrived at the city searching for Aggie before they met Kalabar, who then got them a cab that was driven by Benny.

The three then found themselves back at their grandmother's residence, where Aggie then didn't take them home quite yet and wanted to train Marnie to become a witch. However, she needed to take care of the "bad thing", a robed demon named the Shadow Creature. Aggie had Merlin's Talisman, an item that could destroy the beast, but when the Witch's Brew didn't work, she sent the kids out to get the ingredients. While there, Marnie bumped into Luke, a seemingly normal kid who was once a troll, before he was transformed by a demon.

After they got a broom, both Marnie and Aggie rode it for a bit before they ran into a worried Gwen, who wished to take the kids back home. However, due to the fact she couldn't find a bus, Gwen then went to ask the Mayor about what he could do and was shocked when she noticed that it was Kalabar. When the man left for a short while, the siblings followed Aggie and Luke into a movie theater and were worried about the former's safety.

Inside, they found a grizzly figure: the same hooded demon that Aggie once saw. The cloaked creature was the one who was behind the disappearing Halloweentown Citizens, who were transformed and then frozen. After the Shadow Creature froze both Aggie and Gwen with a spell, Marnie escaped with her fellow siblings, and the creature was unable to follow.

After she decided to finish Aggie's task, Marnie then gathered the ingredients that were needed in order to activate the talisman. Succeeding, they soon dueled with the demon, who then revealed himself to be Kalabar, who then tried to convince the Halloweentown Citizen to overthrow humanity.

With Luke, Marnie managed to save Aggie, Gwen, and everyone else who was frozen with the first three who then went to fight Kalabar. Angry that he was forced into his realm due to people not being able to accept his kin and that Gwen rejected him, Kalabar continued with the battle, and Sophie and Dylan also joined in to defeat the beast. The five were too much for Kalabar, who then perished to them with the heroes who saved the day.
